starinfo/Mellor/!Soxon/!Help
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Hmmm... You only need a minimal boot sequence - loading your backdrop sprite, icon and toolsprites. The last line of it needs to load !Soxon. Soxon then provides you with a configurable list of additional boot files which can be loaded depending on what you want to do eg. one could load up Impression and some fonts if you want to do some word processing; or if you want to start programming a different boot file could load up Zap and a template editor. The possibilities are almost endless. To choose a boot sequence to run, just doubleclick on it in the Soxon main window, and hey presto! - it runs! The Soxon program automatically quits itself after you've made your choice. Choosing 'Don't boot' quits Soxon without booting up anything else. Setting up your own boot files: This is quite simple really. Inside the !Soxon application (shift-doubleclick on it) is a directory called 'Files'. Some example boot sequences are in here, but you can delete or modify them if you so wish. It is most likely they won't run properly on your computer straight away, unless you've got your hard disc organised in exactly the same way as I have. You can create a new boot sequence in Edit. The first line contains the title of the file; ie. the name that will appear in the Soxon window. A prefix of a single | character is included to stop this line being run and almost certainly creating an error. eg: |Word processing or |An example title or |486 PC emulator The rest of the file is just a normal boot sequence as described in the User Guide; eg. you can run files and applicatons using 'Filer_Run <filename>' Why the daft name? Well you put your socks on before your boots, don't you! If this program gets published and I haven't said 'Hello' to a few people I know then my life won't be worth living, so here goes: Hi there! to James, Jake, Paul (Mr 'X'), Mathieu, Mark, Kev, Rob the Mule, Joe, everyone in my Information Systems class, Gareth, Andi Parki (one of only TWO people I know who owns an Arc! And I know a lot of people), Lesley (she's the other one), everyone who spends their time in the Careers room, Angela, Cathy, Karen, Ma, Pa, my sister Lynne and Soo our cat. That should do for the moment I think. This is the first release of Soxon, for Acorn User's Star Info section.
