This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Welcome to the Archiboard Archimedes World Demo

On this disc you will find a demo version of the Archiboard
system which supports network access from !NetMail. Note: the BBS side
of the system isn't supplied in this demo, due to lack of disc space,
sorry!
The !NetMail application provides staff and pupils alike with
an easy to use interface to local and Internet email and news. It works
across any AUN based network.
This demo is as fully featured as is practical for a demo
copy, see the Demo restrictions section at the end for a list of
the restrictions. The restrictions are such that you can link this
demo into !TCPIP & !TCPIPuser or TermiteIP and use it to read and
write internet email (with MIME attachments if you like).
This demo also comes with a pre-existing newsbase, taken from
our internet news feed. This contains messages from comp.sys.acorn.misc
& comp.sys.acorn.programming . This gives you an idea of what is
possible without all the trouble of connecting the system onto the
internet.
Also enclosed is a copy of our pricelist, in addition to
supplying Archiboard we sell modems, monitors & Acorn machine
memory upgrades. If you would like a complete pricelist, please

postal address. Also if you want more information on Archiboard
& !NetMail and who to use it to provide site wide email and news,
then email info@supreme.demon.co.uk giving your full postal
address to receive a free information pack.
By the time this gets out, we shall be supplying a stand
alone version of !NetMail. The stand alone can be used with
most Internet packages, and also supports BBS standard off line
mailpacket formats. So one software package can be used read and
write all your email and news, both on the Internet and on BBS'es.
Expected retail price is going to be 29 pounds + VAT and delivery.
We also now do a special package of Termite Internet with
Archiboard, see pricelist file. Get your school on the Internet

Installation
------------
0. Unarchive the contents of the Archiboard archive onto your harddisc,
you will need about at least about 2Mb free. Use !SparkPlug or !Spark
to unarchive the disk (due to lack of space !SparkPlug isn't supplied)
The demo is now ready to run, as a presetup installation is part of the
distribution. To use the system, run !Bulboard & use !NetMail (either on
the same machine, or across a network); to logon use the ID sysop with
the password PASSWORD .
If you wish to set up the Archiboard demo a new, follow the instructions
below:
1. Run the !BulSetUp application, and click on the SetUp option off the
SetUp icon main menu. An error box will appear saying that the Key file
couldn't be found, click okay & the Archiboard Set Up dialogue box will
appear.
2. Select your configration template: educational or general. This
determines, along other things, the conferences and file directories
that will be created by default.
3. Select the size of your expected userbase. For a demo set up it would
be best to select the Small (200K) option.
4. Select the size of the initial message space. Again for a demo set up
it would be best to select the Small (200K) option.
5. Enter your name in the Sysop's Name text field.
6. Enter your password twice in the Copy1 & Copy2 fields.
7. Click over the Set Up BSS button; the set up program will now create
data files, format them and create a default configuration.
8. When the status dialogue box comes up that it has finished quit the
Set Up program. Archiboard is now installed!
9. To be able to access email & news via your network you will need to make
!NetMail visible over your network. By default !NetMail performs a
broadcast to locate the server, although it is possible to configure it
to target a particular machine (see !NetMail config file).
Logging On Locally
------------------
1. Run !BulBoard.
2. Press Select over the BulBoard bar icon, the main control panel will
appear.
3. Press Menu over the Line1 icon on the lefthand side of the control
panel, the control menu associated with Line 1 will appear.
4. Press select over Logon option on the control menu, archiboard will
now load up the various slot tasks & a terminal window will appear
connecting you to line 1.
5. Enter your ID of 1 and your password and you will be logged on. Enjoy!
Reading email and news across the network using !NetMail
--------------------------------------------------------
1. Run !BulBoard on a machine connected to the network
2. Run !NetMail on the remote machine you wish to logon through.
3. Select click on the !NetMail bar icon, a logon dialogue box will
appear. Enter your name and password, then click on Logon.
4. If you entered your name and password correctly, a control panel
window will appear. Click on an icon to enact the associated
action. Further documentation and help can be obtained off the
Help iconbar option or by clicking on the Info icons in a window.
Using !BulUtils
---------------
1. Run !BulUtils. Note: !BulBoard has to running.
2. Enter your password into the Password entry off the BulUtils main menu,
this allows you access the database via BulUtils - this is to protect
against unauthorised access.
Notes:
i) to access all the user account fields, press menu over any
of the user account dialogue boxes to bring up a menu to display
the other dialogues.
ii) to upload a file drag it onto the BulUtils icon.
iii) from the file entry dialogue box you can download a file via
an option on the menu associated with the dialogue box.
iv) to display the text associated with a message or file, click
over the text icon to the bottom of the respective window.
Using the demo with !TCPIP or Termite Internet
----------------------------------------------
1. Make sure either !TCPIPuser or !TermiteIP has been seen by the
filer.
1. Load the !BulSetUp application (with !Bulboard running at the same
time).
2. Select off the !BulSetUp main menu, the SetUp -> Internet option.
3. Click on the Auto Config button at the bottom of the dialogue that
appears.
4. Select the package you wish to configure to work with Archiboard and
select configure. The packages will now be configured to work with each
other. If you selected !TCPIP you will be asked if wish to configure
!SLIPDial to work with Archiboard. Also the configuration utility will
ask you whether you wish to import to Archiboard each newsgroup that
it finds imported by the internet package.
5. Archiboard is now configured to work with the Internet!
