!Sibelius7/!Help/Systempage

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

FORCING A SYSTEM OR PAGE BREAK

You can force systems and pages to break
wherever you like, but you should only do this
for a good reason because Sibelius may have to
use non-ideal spacing on the system or page in
order to get it to break where you want it to.

Select the barline you want to break at, or
a note in the bar before it
   Choose SelectionSystem break/Page break.
The menu option will have a tick next to it
if you have already forced a system or page
    break there.

The music will spread out so it ends at the
specified point - more specifically, Sibelius
spreads out the two systems leading up to the
break. Thereafter, the bar ending with the
break will always go at the end of a system or
page until you remove the break by re-choosing
  SelectionSystem break/Page break.

PAGE BREAKS

It is a good idea to force page breaks:

in extracted parts so that the performer
doesn't have to turn the page when he is
    playing,
at the end of sections (movements, songs, or
pieces), especially when the next section
has title text at the start. This will en-
sure that the title text remains at the
    start of the new section.

SYSTEM BREAKS

There is an automatic system break at the very
end of a score. It is a good idea to force
  system breaks:

at the end of smallish sections of music
    (e.g. at a repeat barline)
at the end of big sections (e.g. movements)
in extracted parts, especially when the next
section has title text at the start. When
extracting, Sibelius turns all page breaks
into system breaks for you, so you don't get
    huge gaps in the part
where singers or strings divide onto two
staves or rejoin onto one, so you don't get
sequences of bar rests which aren't per-
    formed by anyone
sometimes where the performer changes be-
    tween doubling instruments; see Instruments.
