Info/Fun

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Try doing some of the following things:

CHANGING SPACING
Select a note or rest and drag it left or right instead of up and down. This
is how you can adjust the spacing if you think you can do it bettervthan
Sibelius 7.

EXTRACTING PARTS
Load a score such as Narnia, select one of the staves and then choose
Edit->Extract part. The part will be extracted, transposed, respaced and
rests will be grouped together except where they have to be split by a
rehearsal mark, tempo mark etc.

EXTRACTING SEVERAL PARTS
You can select several instruments from the Instruments menu by clicking
Adjust on each in turn, but choosing the last one with Select. Then choose
Edit->Extract part, and all the instruments will be extracted togther, and
respaced according to the music within them. This is very useful for making
different arrangements: you could compose a piece for choir and instruments,
then extract the choir parts together and add a keyboard reduction instead.

REFORMATTING
Load a score and choose Score->Score format... Change the page size and/or
the stave size, then click on Set. The whole score will be instantly
reformatted to suit the new shape. You can use this to make different
versions of the same score, or by making tiny adjustments to the size of the
staves you can force a score to fit into any desired number of pages. This
is very useful if your piano piece takes up 1 1/2 pages instead of 2.

LOTS OF INSTRUMENTS
You can have up to 128 staves, even 128 different instruments. Select a
stave and click Adjust below it to copy it repeatedly. You'll notice that
Sibelius 7 hardly slows down no matter how much music there is. With lots of
staves you need to use the Score->Score format dialogure box to set either
very large paper or very small staves!
