This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Appologies to Richard Dimond. He has sent an excellent new
menu with completely new code called CODE4. Unfortunately I
had a few problems with it and had to query these so we are
stuck with the EUG18 version. Still it's no bad thing, also
Richards work and a lot better that most of us could do. In
fact when I first saw his latest offering I said to my wife
'it's people like Richard that make me realise that I'm not
as smart as I use to think I was'.
The is another user group which I think many menbers may be
interested in hearing about. It is called Solinet. I mention
it because quite by accident it seems that they publish
their disk on opposing months to EUG that is every two
months from January. Now I have been in contact with Ron
Marshall. He will be mentioning EUG in Solinet and I will
reciplicate here. Solinet is a bit of a different beast from
EUG relying quite heavily on text but has useful and
interesting software. There tends to be a lot on things like
512K addons for the Beeb, using some Beeb specific software
and of course there tends to be things which need MODE7 to
work. However for all that it is an interesting read. I have
every issue of Solinet from issue 1 and can vouch for that.
It is only available on DFS not ADFS. However you can use
3.5in or 5.25in discs. You need to send a formatted disc
with a stamped return address label and 50p to Ron.

In addition to a disk Solinet also have a BBC PD library and
back issues of BeeBug discs. Some of the BeeBug discs are
available on ADFS but make sure that if these are the double
sided variety that your drive can handle double sided discs.
For that matter if you only have a single sided drive you
may be able to get discs on two simgle sided discs.
If you have DFS I do urge you to try Solinet. There really
is no competition between Solinet and EUG and it will give
you somthing to read in that month gap between EUG being
published. One point though. EUG and Solinet will not be
publishing each others software. I have no objection to any
references being made to something which appeared in Solinet
but we won't be poaching each others stuff.
I was listening to the radio the other day, that program on
radio 4 which replaced Anderson Country because some small
minded people didn't like his accent. It was just after that
man was released from prison after he spent three years
studying brain anatomy and ended knowing enough to prove
that he couldn't have done the crime he had been convicted
of. Anyway the presenter who now has a wonderful BBC accent
put forward the proposition that people who teach themselves
can achieve quite amazeing things. Two 'experts' in
education were there to argue the point and immediatly began
to put down the whole concept of self learning. The main
crux of their arguement was that people who go in for self
learning tend to concentrate on single topics and two
examples were one who had become an expert on space ships
and another who had become a world authority on a particular
fish which had been released in to Lake Victoria and damaged
that environment. Where do they find these 'experts'? By
their standards most of the EUG membership together with
Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincon and Thomas Edison haven't
achieved anyhing.
I have been running EUG for a year now and I laid out how I
thought EUG should go at the very start. Most members seeemed
to agree with most of what I said and a few of those who
didn't have nsince changed their minds at least partly.
Now one policy concerned the use of previously published
software. EUG is of course still bound by copywrite laws and
quite rightly so. Some submissions have been of software
which is now said to be Public Domain. I have and really
would prefer to continue to refuse to publish this with the
exception of where improvements or adaptations have been
made. These should ideally be in the opinion of the member
concerned significant improvements and not just renumbering
or changing a REM statement. You should also give
some information on the improvements you have made and how
these differ from the original and most importantly give
full credit to the original source of the software. A
program sent recently and which appears in this EUG came
from Matthew Ford. He found the original program in Micro
User. He liked it but it wouldn't work on the Elk. He has
rewritten some of it so that it now works and given full
credit to Micro User. I believe this is acceptable and I
have published his version in good faith and todemonstrate
that some of what appears in the computing magazines might
be adaptable to the Elk. If any members now buy a copy of
one of these magazines as a result then surely the
magazines can't complain.
Finally a new member is a school teacher who is thinking of
using the Elk to teach her young class about computing. If
you fancy writing a game or something which would appeal to
young children then there is now a willing audience for it.
Anyway contributions from all please because as I've said
before that's what makes EUG.
Membership is growing I'm pleased to say and that can only
be good for all of us.
