Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

<HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE> Acorn Office�98 Manual </TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY LINK="#FF0000" VLINK="#cc0000" ALINK="#ff8888" BGCOLOR="#ffffff" TEXT="#000000"> Online Software User Guide © Peter Price 1998 <HR><BR> <H1>Acorn Office�98</H1> Acorn Office provides a user definable button bar which can be placed anywhere on the screen. <HR><BR> <H2>Installing Office</H2> <BR> Acorn Office is supplied in a SparkFS archive produced by SparkFS by <A HREF="http://www.pilling.demon.co.uk/">David Pilling</A>. If you don�t have a copy of SparkFS yourself then you can download a self-extracting copy of it from the <A HREF="http://www.everymans.com/acornoffice/downloads/">Acorn Office Website</A>. <P> Just inflate the archive in the normal way, by double clicking on its icon, and saving the program called !Office to a directory window. Personally, I would create a new directory in the root directory of your hard disc, to keep things simple. Call it something like Office or Office98. <P> You could even load it in your desktop boot file, or if you have a newer Archimedes, in !Boot.Choices.Boot.Tasks directory to make Office�98 load on start-up. <BR> <H2>The menus</H2> <BR> <ul> <li><B>The icon bar icon</B><BR>Click SELECT to open the short-cut bar, click ADJUST to close it.<BR>You can tell if the window is open or not as it turns grey when the short-cut bar is closed. Even if the bar is open it may be covered by other windows so sometimes it is quicker to just click ADJUST and then SELECT in quick succession because when the bar is reopened it will pop to the top of the window stack. <li><B>The icon bar menu</B><BR>This is very simple. From here you can see what version of the software you are using, the current status of your shareware licence, load the configuration window and load the manual. <li><B>The short-cut bar menu</B><BR>This has only one entry, to load the configuration window. </ul> <BR> <H2>The windows</H2> <BR> <ul> <li><B>The short-cut bar</B><BR>This is the most important window in Office. Click SELECT on any button will load an application. If you click on the bottom icon, the darker grey one, the advanced options window will appear. <li><B>The configuration window</B><BR>This is the most complex window in the whole of the Office program. Infact, to save on RAM usage, the configuration window is actually a whole new program, listed in the Task Manager as <I>Office configure</I>.<BR>At the top of the window are a set of icons relating to two variables: the number of buttons (on the left) and the number of the icon you are currently editing (on the right). The number of buttons to be displayed on the bar can be anything between 1 and 25.<BR>The next 3 writable icons should be fairly obvious. However I will pointout that you can DRAG any application icon or directory from a filer window to this icon instead of having to type in the entire pathname.<BR>The location of !Configure icon should only need setting up once, the first time you run the program, and is used by Office to make the <I>Configure</I> button in the Advanced features window work.<BR><I>Show start-up banner</I> and <I>Show button bar at start-up</I> are options which are only available if you are running a registered version of the software.<BR><I>Load sprites</I> loads the <I>sm!images</I> file into !Paint for examination. I strongly advise you to only use sprites from here if you want to make sure that they will be booted correctly.<BR><font color="#FF0000">Please remember that changes made in the configuration window will not take effect until !Office is reloaded.</FONT> <LI><B>The advanced features window</B><BR>From the buttons in this window you can run Acorn�s Configure application, shutdown the computer or launch a new URL.<BR>The right-hand side of the window is used for creating new documents. At present you can only load a new text file or a new Ovation Pro document, however, because of the modular construction of Office you will be able to download plugins to launch other programs, as and when they become available, from the <A HREF="http://www.everymans.com/acornoffice/downloads/">Acorn Office Website</A>. </ul> <BR> <H2>Licence</H2> <BR> <B>Acorn Office is Shareware.</B> If, after 1 month, you would like to continue using the software then please send a payment of £5 (pounds Stirling) to my address. <BR> Under the current laws, you are obliged to send me the payment if you continue to use the software after 1 month. However, I don�t really mind; either send me the payment or risk destroying the trust that I, and other Shareware authors have in you, their users, and risk losing all development on Acorn Office.
