The rabbit has a body length of 35-45 cm. It is very common, living on farmland, wood edges and dunes. It lives in colonies, digging extensive burrows called warrens. The rabbit feeds on grass, herbs and crops, and is preyed upon by buzzards, owls, foxes and cats. The female digs a special burrow, as a nest, which is lined with hay, straw and fur. Breeding occurs right throughout the year, mainly between January and June. An adult doe will produce about ten live young a year. Rabbits are born deaf, blind and without fur, but within a month they can look after themselves.
