This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Version 2.20 (22 Mar 1993)
Load this application in the usual manner and click, using the 'menu'
button, on the icon. As expected a menu appears. For help on what item
selections do see below.
If you click on the icon with SELECT, the main window appears. This is
where you fill in the information about the CD (etc.).
The grey arrows that point right, when clicked on using any button,
open a menu with various examples. You are not limited to these options
and you can therefore type anything you want into the boxes.
The other arrow buttons are explained by using the "Help" option on the
main menu.
As well as using these arrows to select a record, you can type a
number into the icon labelled 'Disc Number'.
NB. This can be from the range 1 to 1000, depending on the limit set in
the 'Options' sub menu (see below).
The caret can be moved up and down by using the cursor keys and down
by using the RETURN key.

| Animation � | - This allows you to turn the icon bar animation on
| | or off. This change is immediate. (See below in the

| Records � | - This allows you to set the number of records to use.
| | To keep memory usage to a minimum an upper limit of
| | 1000 records is set. This change is immediate.
| Windows � | - You can switch between plain and 3D icons on the
| | windows. This change will occur only from the next
| | time you run the program after using the 'Save
| | Choices' option.

Printing
~~~~~~~~
The print window gives various options. There is a choice of qualities,
either Draft or NLQ, along with the number of copies you require. You can
also select what type of output you want; either 'Artist and Title Only',
'Cassette Inlay' or 'Full Details'. These options are illustrated here:
'Artist and Title Only' will give a listing such as:

Cassette Inlay will print an inlay for the record number in the icon
below that of number of copies
Printing 'Full Details' will give:

Saving
~~~~~~
The save window is not a standard RISC OS save box due to the two icons at
the bottom. These select the type of save you wish to carry out. Selecting
'CD Index File' will save a CDIndex file that can be re-loaded into the
application at any time. Selecting 'Text File' will save an ASCII text file
of all the records, this can then be imported into a DTP package or word-
processor for printing via the RISC OS printer drivers. This is useful as
the print code within the application may not work with some laser or
inkjet printers.
Searching
~~~~~~~~~
Searching in CD Index is limited by the fact that search strings are case
sensitive. When a window appears with a list of record numbers you can
click on any of these numbers to bring up that record.
Sorting
~~~~~~~
Sorting can be carried out on either the Artist or the Title. Click on
"Go" to begins the sort process and the time taken depends on what ARM
chip you own and the number of records there are in the file. The following
table gives a brief summary of the times taken:

F5 Swaps the case of the letter immediately after the caret's
position.
F6 Deletes to the beginning of the line.
F7 Deletes to the end of the line.
F8 Select 'Restart' option.
F9 Opens the print options window.
^� Move the caret to the top icon.
^� Move the caret to the bottom icon.
Home Move the caret to the top icon.
RISC OS 3 only - Closing a !CDIndex window while holding SHIFT will
produce a normal iconised window with a personalised sprite instead of
a boring blank one.
When loading, a nice little window appears containing information about
this application and a "logo".
Clicking on the icon of the icon bar will open a window, but first a
little animation of a compact disc player drawer opening will be
activated. This can be turned off by using the menu option.
Closing a window (without holding SHIFT) will run the animation in reverse.
(ie. the CD drawer will close).
This program allows interactive help to be displayed by either !Help or
!Spy, but does not include help for menu items (as compatible with RISC
OS 3 only).
Version 2
~~~~~~~ ~
Versions after 2.00 now contain a track list feature, available from the
main window. Please note, that files created with version one are not
compatible with this version.
