Coming soon! Stunt Racer 2000 track editor!
This application supports Acorn's !Help application.
StuntEd, despite its silly name is a useful little
application for all Stunt Racer 2000 freaks. Can't
qualify to race on the Banked Banana? Need some Carlos
Fandango wheels? No problem - StuntEd will do all this
for you and more.
To run the program, just double-click on the imaginative
!StuntEd icon, and a window will soon appear. This is the
editing window, and to start with, the ropey old default
driver is loaded. You can play around with the defaults
if you really want, but it's much more useful to edit
your own drivers.
To edit an existing driver, drag its file icon either
onto the iconbar icon or into one of StuntEd's windows.
The main window will now show the driver's name, his or
her league position and whatever equipment the car has.
The driver's name is NOT the same as the filename. The
attributes that can be changed are as follows:
Driver's Name: A bit of a giveaway, this - just type in a
new name for your driver if you wish.
Series: Stunt Racer 2000 is only supplied with
series 1. You can alter your position for other series if
you wish, but you'll need extra tracks discs to play on
them.
League: For each series there are four leagues.
Just enter the numbr of the one you wish to race in.
Track: Each league has four tracks. Enter the
track on which you wish to race.
The Series, League and Track values can also be changed
by clicking on the arrows next to the writable icons.
Qualified: Clicking on this button means you are
automatically qualified for the next race.
Position: If you are not qualified to race, this
icon is shaded. Otherwise, just enter your required grid
position. This is reflected in the grid representation
below; your car's position is highlighted. You can also
change position by clicking with select and adjust on
this.
Tyre Grip: Enter the amount of tyre grip that you
want. This affects your car's handling on the road. The
higher the better - eventually, your car will no longer
skid at all. Try 5000%+.
Engine Tuning: Now you can have 0-200 acceleration in
just over 0.1 secs. Values of greater than about 600%
either make your car impossible to control or simply
don't allow your car to move. Experimentation with your
gear ratios in the garage often helps.
Nitro: It's worth grabbing at least 1000% nitro
just to make sure that you don't run out during a race.
Note that with more than 100% of these, the garage
display goes a bit awry. Also, after qualifying
(legitimately), the game brings you back down to 100%, so
before racing, save your driver, quit SR2000 and re-edit
your driver.
Mega-Boost: A bit redundant with 600% engines, but as
its free now, why not have one. Using it will almost
certainly result in death, but it's handy for loops.
Don't bother on lunar circuits.
The scanner button gives your car a scanner and, and the sabotage button plays havoc with an opponent's vehicle.
Cash: Type in the amount of cash you want -
handy for spending in the garage tweaking gears. Beware,
that if you are too greedy, the next time you win some
money may come as a shock - your credit wraps around
after 100000cr and goes back to 0.
The cancel button replaces all changes you have made with
whatever the last saved status was.
The save button saves your new driver in the same place
you dragged it in from, with the same filename. If
StuntEd finds the destination file locked, or the disc
write-protected it will inform you that your new driver
has not been saved properly.
The menu has four entries, detailed below:
Info: This displays a standard info box.
Statistics: This brings up a new window with more
information about the current driver, such as the number
of races and so on. I thought about making these fields
editable, but I really don't see the point. I've retained
the window though.
Default: Selecting this loads the default driver
file from inside StuntEd. You can edit this if you wish,
but saving it means it will become the new default.
Quit: Quit the application. No warning is given if data is unsaved.
Most errors are trapped, and none are deemed to be fatal,
so if you get an error, sit tight, and everything will
more than likely be ok.
