Axel/!AXEL/Manual/Page1
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

AXEL ---- AXEL is a 3D game using the FREESCAPE II graphics system found in Domark's 3D Construction Kit (with which it was made). Loading ------- RISC OS 2 users should load as normal, RISC OS 3 users should install the !Run file in the root directory into the !AXEL directory before running, and should rename the original !Run file to another name in case it is needed in future. Note that under RISC OS 3, the screenblanker module in the OS is disabled since it causes bugs which will cause the machine to lock up if it is left active. Storyline --------- Whilst on a mission for the Galactic StarFleet, one starship was passing through a major star system where it encountered a large object from which a large assortment of weapons were launched straight towards the starship. The starship and its crew were able to send out a distress signal towards StarFleet HQ detailing an outline of the object. Analysis of the plans showed that the object was some sort of artificial moon, which had a nuclear core similar to the StarFleet's Axel cores used in starships, hence they named the moon Axel. It had 18 large square platforms placed around a core. The moon was covered in defences against both distant and nearby intruders. Careful analysis of each sector showed that one route was left open for incoming intruders. StarFleet launched a small fightercraft to the moon with a sole mission, to destroy the weapons systems entirely before they destroyed any other starships. The mission was felt vital since the moon lay between two major planets which had a large amount of trading between them, and this trading route brought vast amounts of funds into the Galactic Federation. StarFleet had also sent a starship towards this route. Communications with this ship had suddenly been cut off, and so it is in great danger of being destroyed. The mission is very important... Aim --- You must use the keyboard or mouse (by interacting with the icon display at the base of the screen) to control your movement on the moon. Your total aim is to destroy all of the guns (both standard and advanced), cannons and both of the large core section on the light and dark sides of the moon. You must then escape from the moon. Good luck!!!
