This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Archimedes World Cover Disk
February 93
We select only the best software for publication to make sure you have
genuinely useful programs. Please read about the programs in the
magazine to understand how to use them fully.
All the programs on this disk, unless otherwise stated, are copyright
Argus Specialist Publications, 1993. They may not be copied or resold
except for the purposes of making a back-up copy. They should NOT be
distributed as Public Domain.
Purchase of Archimedes World by a school or college
is inclusive of a site licence for the software.
Keep It Safe
Before doing anything else, you should make a backup of this disk. Use
only the backup so that if anything goes wrong, such as accidentally
deleting a file, you can just make another backup from the original.
Archived
The !AWFeb93 application contains all the software, which is stored in
the 'Goodies' directory. To get as much data on the disk as possible
it is archived using David Pilling's !ArcFS application. The
'!AWFeb93' application, when de-archived, will not fit on a single
floppy disk. You can copy it to a hard disk and it will run perfectly
well from there.
Running
To enable you to run the software from the archive we include a copy
of read only version !ArcFS. This application allows loading of
archived software as if it were stored in the usual way. The only
difference you will experience is slower loading. This is a small
price to pay for almost twice as much software on disk. !ArcFS is a
public domain utility and can be freely copied subject to the
conditions stated in the !Help text file inside the application
directory.
Copying Software
When the !AWFeb93 application icon is dragged from the archive window
to another disk it is de-archived as it is copied. To run the software
uncompressed from the RAM disk it will need to be set to at least
1700k. If you have 2Mb or more of RAM then you can create an 800K RAM
disk and copy the !AWFeb93 archive to there. This greatly speeds up
the loading of software from the archive.
You can copy individual programs from the cover disk if you
choose. To do this click with the left (Select) mouse button on the
Open Viewer option. This will open a standard filer window which you
can drag the items from in the standard way. The files will be de-
archived as they are copied. They can then be loaded without using the
Waiter disk menu or !ArcFS.
If you have any difficulties running software from the archive
then it is best to copy the programs to another disk and try running
them from there.
Documentation
All the programs on the disk are fully documented in Archimedes World.
Any additional documentation may be found in the relevant directories
on this disk. Text files can be displayed from the menu using our
built-in text display module. The text display menu allows you to
print a hard copy. Make sure that your printer is on line and ready to
print.
Using the Menu
The disk menu makes it easy for you to run the programs and read any
instructions. Some items on the main menu lead to a sub-menu while
others run applications or display text.
To select a menu item click the Select button once over its
icon. When an item is selected, the menu disappears from the desktop.
To get the menu back, click on the Waiter icon on the icon bar. The
menu will appear exactly as you left it.
To run a program, simply click once on the icon. There may be
instructions on using the program which can be viewed on screen.
Please be sure to read the instructions before you run the programs.
The last item on each sub-menu is the 'Previous menu' option
which takes you back to the previous menu.
Programs
Alien Attack
Classic arcade action, remember those nasty beings from another planet, yes
those things called space invaders, on the cover disk this month.
You have many waves of aliens attacking you, as you progress it does get
that little bit harder, so be aware of those nasty little invaders,
exterminate them before they obliterate you.

Caves Of Doom
This month we bring you some excellent, extra levels for the caves of doom
game which we published on the October cover disk. Simply copy these files
to your original game and then load as normal, have fun !!!!.

ModuleFS
This utility lets you look at modules that are resident in your machine, not
only that it gives information about a module itself. The program also has a facility to unplug modules and also initialise them as well.
Warning
When using this program be careful not to unplug modules that are needed by
the operating system, or I am afraid your machine may not work correctly, if
this is the case do not panic as you can get the machine back in working
order by doing a factory reset. Just switch off the machine, then hold down
the "Delete" key and switch back on, everything should be back as normal.

Repay
This program allows to calculate loans no matter what interest rate is given
at the moment, handy for all your mortgage payments and of course those
dreaded loans which we seem to take out.
So before you take out a loan check it with the Repay program, it pays to
check first.

WordSearch
Ever wanted to create a wordsearch puzzle, well now is your chance, this
program allows you to do it all, you can create a wordsearch of your very
own with your words, if you know what I mean (Ed.). This program also has
its own dictionary as well, the program is suited to all environents whether
schools, magazines, private usage, ideal for educational usage.

Zone Clock
Ever wanted to know what the time is in Japan, well now you can with Zone
Clock, this program tells the time in neumorous countries around the world.

Imagery Demo
This month we bring you a paint package called Imagery, which is from
Palette Studio, this version is a demo only so you will not be able to save
your masterpieces.
Imagery has many options for all those professional paint applications, it
also has many features like wobble pixel map etc.. try it for yourself.
We have also included a couple of examples from the full version of Imagery,
these can be found in the Directory called ImageryPic on this months cover
disk. This will give you a guide as to what the full package is capable
of.
Warning
Because the program needs to close its files from loading, it is advisable
you copy the entire program to another disk before usage. As the version of
ARCFS on the cover disk only allows loading and not saving of files...

Guardian3
Viruses as we know are a part of our computing life unfortunately, but
Archimedes World has once again come to your aid. On this months cover
disk we have a program aptly called guardian, this application sits on the
icon bar whilst you happily load your programs. This program will give a
warning of any software that might have a virus within itself, it will also
allow to scan any of your disks to check for relevant viruses. Remember if
you get a copy of software from a friend or any software you have bought it
is good practice to check it with guardian.
Warning:
This program requires the !System application to be present on the same disk
before it can run, also it is advisable to copy the program to a newly
formatted disk to make life easier, hard disk users should have this program
installed on there hard disk.
Hard Disk Users Warning:
Many of the programs on this disk are generally set for drive 0, and
sometimes you will find certain programs will not load. The reason for
this is that you may have configured your drive to 4, rather than 0.
If a program does not load and gives an error, try configuring
the drive back to zero, this is done by pressing F12 from desktop and
typing *Configure Drive 0. This should then, hopefully, remove any
errors caused by any program run from the menuing system.
Regular Features
The Adverts section contains advertisements from certain companies who
supply the Archimedes marketplace. There are details of new products,
sample files and order forms.
There is also a number of forms for subscriptions, software
submissions and back issue orders which can be loaded into a text
editor, filled in and printed out.
Viruses
We take the threat of viruses seriously at Archimedes World so our
cover disks are checked thoroughly to ensure that they are virus free.
We can only check for known viruses and there is the small
possibility of new, undocumented viruses slipping through our checking
procedure. Please be aware though that you are as likely to contract a
virus from any other source as you are from Archimedes World.

Not only do we want your program but we're also willing to pay for it.
We are interested in applications, utilities, graphic screens,
animation, clip art sprite/Draw files, music, sound samples, games,
demos and anything else that is interesting and original.
You should also note that RISC-OS applications stand the best
chance of publication.
You should always send in your program submissions complete with the
submission form and a Stamped Addressed Envelope. Submission forms can
be found on this disk and inside the magazine (photocopies are
accepted). Program submissions are usually processed within four weeks
of receipt, however you should allow up to six weeks for a reply as
software evaluation and testing can take quite some time.
Software Sale
The standard of software on this cover disk is very high and is
typical of the quality of software which has been published by
Archimedes World (and A&B Computing) over the last few years. To make

Software submissions which are too large for the cover disk can still
be published by means of our Software Catalogue. We can make your
