BioBot/Intro
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

THE BALLBOT PROJECT Please distribute to: Christopher Hurley L1WAlex Goodman 3T Alex Blakemore 6SMiles Newey 3R Tom Johnson 6SKeith Jackson 7G Alan Stephens 6AJohn Heasman 7N Greg Franklin 6BJonathon Skinner 3P Alex Straker 6SStewart Archer 3P ------------------------------------------------- Thank you for volunteering to help with the BallBot robotics project. There will be a prelimilary meeting to discuss the project in more detail on THURSDAY 11th DECEMBER at 1:00 in room 67. Please see me as soon as possible if you are unable to attend. The next task is for you to decide which particular area of the project you are interested in working in. I would be grateful if you could think about this, and have some ideas by Thursday. Seventh form volunteers will probably work as technical advisors, as you will probably leave before the project is completed. The main areas of work are listed below: COMPUTING: Designing the computer programs which will control BallBot (computer programming knowledge required). Two computer programs will be required: one to manage the artificial intelligence side of the rpbot, and the other to process the raw acoustic data from BallBot's sensors. They will need to be first written in a high-level code such as BASIC, and then converted into 6502 (low-level machine code). ELECTRONICS: Researching and designing the computer circuitry which will be in the final self-contained robot. ULTRASONICS: Investigating the input received from acoustic sensors to find ways of distinguishing different materials from their acoustic signatures. This will involve monitoring the input on an oscilloscope, and looking for common features of the input from different materials. It will also involve testing the maximum range over which the sensors can operate reliably. MECHANICS: Designing and building the robot. Prototypes will have to be made from Technic Lego, and then the real robot will hopefully be constructed from stronger materials. SUPPORT: - Internet research (surfing the web/newsgroups for useful information). - Publicity manager Dominic Ford (Email: dominic@reigram.demon.co.uk)
