Help file for !Foreign ====================== What is it, what does it do and how does it do it? -------------------------------------------------- !Foreign is a wimp application that allows you to access the foreign characters that are not easily accessible from the keyboard. !Foreign was written for use by foreign language students at Kimberley School, Nottingham as a simpler alternative to !Chars. I have designed !Foreign with two main windows: the 'French' window and the 'German' window. Each window contains special characters for the appropriate language. Another window, the 'other' window, contains some useful, but not easily accessible, characters. When !Foreign is run, it will install itself on the right hand side of the icon bar. The 'French' window will also be opened. The other two windows can be opened by clicking on the appropriate icon in the icon bar menu. Why did I write !Foreign? ------------------------- Well, as I've said I wrote it for foreign language students at Kimberley School, Kimberley, Nottingham. I thought it would be nice if I wrote something useful for the computer staff to remember me by (I am leaving the 6th form after my exams in July to work with Youth for Christ for a year), so I sat down at my A3000, designed a few templates, pulled together some code, designed an icon and here we are....!Foreign. Thankyou -------- I would like to thank Acorn for making such ACE machines; my uncle, Bruce Goatly, for writing loads of really useful articles; Computer Concepts, for writing ArtWorks in which I designed the !Foreign icon and have most of my graphics project; Acorn again, for making Acorn machines so easy to program and produce good quality stuff; My computer science teachers, for teaching all about the history of computers; my dad, for introducing me to Acorn machines (it all started with a 32k beeb); Dick Alstein, for writing !TemplEd, the bestest template editor around; and finally, Simon Huntington, for writing the 'Interface' module.
