L/+BORER1

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

**********************************************************************
Dear Gus,
Thanks for the last two disks EUG's 25 & 26. I have a little trouble
with EUG26 in that I cannot get a straight run through the disk
from the menu with my main Electron set-up. For example, to get the
GAMES menu on the screen I have to do the *RUN $.CAT2 RETURN with
the main menu in memory, then BREAK and then OLD and RUN - then
select 5. If I then select 1 and 2 I get the games texts, but if I
select R for the golf game I get "not found at line 270" - and I
have not solved this one yet. The funny thing is that if I put the
disk into my INTEGRA-B BBC I can run through the whole disk from the
SHIFT/BREAK to the end except that selecting R for the golf game
still gives "not found at line 270". This could be due to the fact
that INTEGRA-B BBC is currently *CONFIGURE'd to OSMODE1 which is the
Standard BBC with shadow RAM. It's getting a little into the early
hours so I will reset the BBC to OSMODE0 tomorrow which is the BBC
Model B 32K and run the disk through again. Perhaps , also, all the
problems I have had with "not found at line ..." at other times as
well is something to do with the varying manufacturers involved in
the ADDONS I have with my main Electron - although I do not see why!
I have now set the BBC to OSMODE0 and I can run through the disk
alright but still get the not found message. I have solved some of
these messages in the past by slight changes to the disk programming
but I cannot always solve them this way.
I also run a few disks with dual catalogue using Advanced Computer
Products Disk Toolkit ROM with *AFORM80 0 C 2 C. It is very handy for
updating large database files held in STARSTORE II, for example, as
otherwise files crash when updating. Swapping catalogues is done with
*ASWAP.

For interest the INTEGRA-B BBC is controlled by a special ROM (IBOS)
which I have in PAGE 15 at present and the computer can be set-up to
run in various configurations via an IBOS command *CONFIGURE. These
are called OSMODEn, where:-
n=0 Standard BBC Model B RAM in PAGES 4 to 7
n=1 BBC Model B with Shadow Ram RAM in PAGES 4 to 7
         n=2  BBC Model B+ 128K RAM in PAGES 12 to 15
n=3 BBC Master 128K RAM in PAGES 4 to 7
         n=4  BBC Model B+ 64K RAM in PAGES 4 to 7
n=5 BBC Master Compact RAM in PAGES 4 to 7
The RAM PAGES are battery backed as is the clock to use *TIME or
*ALARM. This computer was delivered with the IBOS ROM in PAGE 15 and
some other ROM's and I have only used it in OSMODE0, 1 and 4 so far. I
can also put 32K RAM chips in some of the higher pages instead of
ROM's (though these would not be battery backed) to increase
flexibility.
When I understand it better than I do now I'll write a longer article.
One needs to be a computer boffin to understand some of the INTEGRA-B
User Guide - perhaps that is why they chose BETA being Greek!

Also, I have a "finding the time problem" as I am currently trying
very hard to get to grips with my MITAC 3027F Notebook Computer. I
have written a separate little note on this computer. Eventually, I
aim to transfer all of my serious computing to the MITAC and have the
variously configured Electrons and BBC's for pure hobby interest.

On the PC front I see that computers have now reached 200MHz.

Best wishes and keep up the good work.
Tony.
