This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Regular and Oblique styles

This font is an exact reproduction of the system
font built into the Archimedes computers. Whilst at
first sight it may seem silly to have an outline
version of the system font, it makes sense if you
want to show an illustration of textual computer
output in a DTP or word-processed document, or you
want a special effect like printing at an angle.
In fact, the Electronic Font Foundry sell a version
of this font, under the name Matrix, for �11 - so
there must be some call for it.
Details
--------
All the standard Archimedes system characters are
reproduced exactly in the outline font, including
the special desktop window characters (back icon,
close icon etc.). In addition, I have added a few
extras in the appropriate slots for those characters
which are normally undefined, namely the daggers,
smart quotes, en-dash, em-dash and various others.
All these conform correctly to the grid of squares
used by the standard characters.
Of course, the Oblique face is not realistic to the
system font since it is on a slant - but it's useful
for emphasis purposes.
There is just one character which is unlike the
others - the Acorn logo. This is modelled on the
one available in the Selwyn font, although it is
my drawing and is therefore slightly different
(better, I hope!). It is nice to use as a bullet.
This character is identical in both Regular and
Oblique styles.
In addition to the outline fonts, I have included in
the font folder a system font called ArcFull.
This is just the same as the normal system font,
except that it includes the special characters
mentioned above (smart quotes etc). I defined it
because I often want to see the special characters
in !Edit. (There is actually one minute difference:
I have added a pixel at either end of the minus sign
to make it wider, as I find the standard one too
small. This change is not reflected in the outline
font.)
By the way, the funny symbol after the WIMP icons is
a matrix form of my monogram - an R on top of an H.
You'll forgive me for personalising the font, I'm
sure! There was just one spare character left when I
had finished, so I though I might as well fill it.
Tip
----
If you want to use the Acorn font at exactly the
same size as the system font itself in Impression,
create a style with the font aspect ratio at 50%
(because I have used square pixels for the matrix,
whereas the desktop {in most modes} uses - or scales
pixels to be - twice as high as they are wide).
Use a font size of 17pt, and a line spacing of
12.8pt. Sorry these numbers are so strange!
This will give an anti-alised version of the system
font, which is otherwise identical to the real one.

This font family is Public Domain, and as such may
be copied, distributed and used freely. No charge
may be made for it under any circumstances.
Two conditions only:
1) Please do not alter any of the characters'
definitions. They have been created very precisely,
and cannot easily be improved upon. Also, there are
no free slots, since ALL the characters have been
defined (how many fonts, commercial or PD, can that
be said of?!)
2) All the files within the Acorn font directory
must be kept and distributed together. These are as
