Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

1. Purpose
HotKeys is a multi-tasking utility to support Doggysoft's IconDir. It
greatly simplifies the job of assigning 'hot keys' so that IconDir files
may be processed from the keyboard by typing Ctrl+<upper case letter>. It
also allows you to determine whether objects should be 'kickstarted' (ie.
executed automatically when IconDir is first launched).
2. Use
IconDir needs to have been 'seen' by the Filer for HotKeys to function,
though it need not have been run. For this reason, the HotKeys application
should reside within the IconDir application directory. Start HotKeys by
double-clicking in the usual way, and its icon appears on the icon bar.
Click select or adjust on the icon bar icon to open the window.
For each letter A-Z there is a vacant pathname slot and a switch to say
whether or not the object should be 'kickstarted'. Any object (file or
directory) may simply be dragged from a Filer window to the appropriate slot
to register its pathname. If you want the object to be 'kickstarted' (ie.
executed automatically when IconDir is first launched) then click on the
corresponding switch. There are some additional slots at the end without an
associated letter so that you can specify objects to be kickstarted without
their having a hot key.
To save the HotKeys file in the IconDir directory click on Save. If a
HotKeys file already exists a warning is issued allowing you to Cancel
(giving you the chance to rename/copy the existing file) or Replace.
You can load an existing HotKeys file by dragging it into the indented area
to the right of the arrow, or onto the icon bar icon. It is then available
for editing and re-saving.
The Clear button removes all entries from the window, and Cancel closes the
window without saving. The window may be reopened with the data intact by
clicking select or adjust on the icon bar icon.
If the window contains modified data an asterisk appears in the title bar,
and a prompt is issued if you try to quit the application, clear the window
or load a new file. The prompt allows you to Discard (ie. scrap the contents
of the window), Cancel (ie. remove the prompt) or Save (save the contents of
the window).
3. Status
HotKeys is only useful as an adjunct to IconDir and therefore has the same PD
status. See IconDir's documentation for more details.
