This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Do you now what state your bank account is currently in? No, why not use
!BankSys to tell you.
Loading is simple. Just double-click! After the pretty introduction banner
disappears, then you are free to experiment.....
Clicking SELECT on the icon bar will open the main window. This is where
everything happens. Clicking MENU, however, will open a menu giving the
option to configure !BankSys to your personal taste.

Toolbar
~~~~~~~
The area of the window contains icons allowing easy access to the
following operations (hotkeys shown in brackets):
Save (F3) - This lets you store any data.
Print (F0) - Surprise, surprise. This gives a hard-copy of the
inputted data.
Search - Guess what!? This lets you search for a transaction
by name.
Month - Clicking with SELECT and ADJUST, or using the MENU
allows you to change to a specific month.
Year - Clicking with SELECT and ADJUST, or using the MENU
allows you to change to a specific year.
Credit (F1) - Lets you enter a credit.
Debit (F2) - Lets you enter a debit.
Amend (F6) - Once either a credit or debit is highlighted, this
will allow you to alter it.
Delete (F7) - Once either a credit or debit is highlighted, this
will allow you to delete it.
Standing Order (F5) - Lets you enter a standing order.
Hyper Help
~~~~~~~~~~
This icon gives you some brief information about the icon currently under
the pointer. It has several options that can be changed in the
configuration window.
Account Statement Listing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This part of the window displays all data currently inputted for the
selected month and year. By clicking on a data item (with SELECT), you
can either amend or delete it. Clicking on it again will de-select it.
Account Details
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This section of the window allows you to enter details about the account,
such as the bank's address, sort code and account number.
Printing
~~~~~~~~
The print window gives various options. There is a choice of qualities,
either Draft, NLQ or via a RISC OS printer driver. There is also the
ability to print either a single month or year, or the whole file. An
extra icon allows you to choose whether or not you print the account
details.
All of the routines have been fully tested using both dot-matrix and
ink-jet printers (ie. Star LC24-200 and HP DeskJet 510). If you are having
problems, save the file as text, then drag it onto a printer driver.
Saving
~~~~~~
Saving can occur in one of two forms. It is possible to save the file as
a text file. This is useful as it will allow you to create a hard-copy of
the data using the RISC OS printer drivers. The other type of file that
you can save is a BankData file. This can be reloaded into !BankSys at
a later date by either double-clicking on it, or dragging it's icon to
the application.
Searching
~~~~~~~~~
Searching in !BankSys is not limited by the fact that search strings have
to becase sensitive. The search is carried out on the 'name' of a
transaction. When the search is complete a window appears with a list of
months in which the search string appears. Clicking on an icon in the
window will make !BankSys move to the corresponding month and close the
window.
NB. Numbers in brackets indicate the number of times the search string
appears in that record.
Configuration
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By selecting 'Options...' from the icon bar menu it is possible to
configure !BankSys to suit your own needs. There are three main areas
available. The 'Auto File Load' section lets you load a file on start-up.
Note, the file must have been created first!
'Password Protection' is self-explanatory. When selected loading !BankSys
will not completed until the correct password has been entered. You are
allowed four attempts before !BankSys quits itself.
The 'General' section currently deals with the hyper-text function and the
style of the menus. You have the ability to turn it on or off, and change
the type of message displayed in the hyper-text icon. 'Short comments'
gives a single word description, whereas 'Long comments' produces a
sentence. The final option deals gives you the ability to remove the
hotkeys (function keys) from the menus.
The final section, 'Outline Fonts', only changes the configuration upon
re-loading the application. It gives you the ability to turn the outline
font display on or off. (You need to 'save' the options to change this.)
NB. The !Run file within this directory contains a line which alters the
size of the font cache. You can change this to suit your needs, by
using !Edit.
The icons down the right-hand side are fairly self-explanatory, apart from
'Default'. This restores all options to their original state, ie. how I
initially set them up. This doesn't return them to how they were before you
started playing!!!
TIP - Because of the nature of the file structure, to start and account
from, say, 1992, you must change the internal clock... Once you
have saved the file you can change the internal clock back...
Key Shortcuts and Other Features

(Note: Function keys may only work if the caret is not 'owned' by another

When loading, a nice little window appears containing information about
this application and a "logo".
This program allows full interactive help to be displayed by either !Help or
!Spy.
Closing a Disc Index window while holding SHIFT will produce a normal
iconised window with a personalised sprite instead of a boring blank one.
When saving a desktop boot file, Bank System, will insert the appropriate
command for you.
