The hermit crab has a body length of up to 10 cm. It has a soft body with no shell to protect it, so it lives in an empty common welk shell. These shells can be up to 8 cm. It has massive pincers, with the right pincer being larger than the left. It can be found in rock pools along the sea shore. The hermit crab often shares its shell with marine worms, also with anemones attached to the outside.
