Examples/!Animals/mute_swan

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

The mute swan is Britains only resident swan. It is one of the world's heaviest flying birds, growing up to 160 cms. in length and up to 18 kg. in weight. Can be found in town parks, village ponds, rivers and lakes where it makes a large nest on the bank of twigs and vegetation. Between March and June the female lays two to seven greenish coloured eggs. Incubation takes thirty five days and the cygnets fly about four months later. The mute swan feeds on water plants, seeds and grasses, and also on amphibians and invertebrates. It was known for a long time as bird royal, and this still applies as all mute swans on the River Thames belong either to the Queen or to one of two livery companies. The two other types of swan seen in Britain are winter visitors. The Whooper, which is the same size as the mute and the Bewick, which is smaller.*Text*16DrawHilighter \	\
