L/Boarer2

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

I hope that you have Master copies of all of the EUG's you have
produced as I am about to go back a little in time. I'm sorry about
this but I have now started to go through the flippy disks EUG16 to 18
more thoroughly, EUG16 being the first flippy. Results as follows:-
EUG16
Side 1 ok to flippy side. Re-booting produced menu and menu selection
was ok, except that D gave "Bad name at line 395" and the R option for
C gave "Bad name at line 385".
EUG17
No problems at all.
EUG18
I'm sending Disk 1 back as the flippy side *CAT is the same as Side 1
hoping you can replace it, please. Both with Side 1 and Disk 2 I get a
few "bad name, not found or no such variable"
EUG19 & 20 - to be reviewed. EUG21 as above.

If the problem I have is not immediately apparent then like the
Principle above do not spend your precious time with it.

The latest prices for Electron's that I have seen in Micro Computer
Mart vary between `15 and `40 depending whether 32K or 64K and the
amount of Addon's and amount of (and type of) software.

With very best wishes, Tony

PS Even later! Looking further into EUG16 I find that the fault with D
lies at line 200 where "SCRPRINT" is called up (8 units long) instead
of "SCRPRIN" as on the disk. Altering line 200 and calling D RUN's the
program. Similarly, altering line 195 allows the RUN option for C to
work properly. On this principle I altered line 620 f$ to CasTxt1 and
630 to GamTxt1 in EUG21 (to line up with disk file names) but they
still give the same "bad name at line 140". Also I ask if P$ should be
MM in line 640as the Rubik square runs with P$ as MM (I have not
inserted all the file names to see if one works!) What I do not
understand is that if all works well on your master files how do
these program errors creep in when you "mass produce" members disks?

Sorry this letter is "bitty" but several late nights have been
involved. So at this point I am SENDING IT IN. I apologise in advance
if some of the errors have been pointed out in later EUG's that I have
not caught up with yet in any detail.

THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK TONY. PLEASE READ THE BOOBS FILE FROM THE MAIN
MENU. I RETRIED PMENU AND COULDN'T GET THE PROBLEMS YOU DESCRIBE. LINE 140
CALLS THE FILE LISTED IN YOUR CASE FROM LINES 640 AND 650. NOW THESE LINES
AS YOU KNOW ASK YOU TO TURN OVER THE DISC AND PRESS SPACE. THEY THEN JUMP
INTO THE RELEVANT DIRECTORY, DIR A FOR 640 DIR C FOR 650 AND THEN PUT A
TEXT FILE ONTO THE SCREEN. ALL TEXT FILES HAVE A NUMBER SUFFEX, USUALLY 1
BUT FOR LONG FILES THERE MAY BE ANOTHER ONE WITH THE SUFFEX 2 AND 3. FOR
DFS THESE FILENAMES INCLUDING THE SUFFEX CAN ONLY BE 7 LETTER LONG. IN THE
CASE OF PMENU THIS IS CERTAINLY THE CASE. I KNOW THAT SOME DFS'S ACT IN
FUNNEY WAYS, WATFORD'S AND CUMANA'S HAVE CAUSED PROBLEMS MAINLY USING
OSCLI. THIS HOWEVER IS CLEARLY NOT THE CASE WITH YOURS. CAN YOU TRY THESE
AGAIN AND GET BACK TO ME? HOWEVER WHEN YOU GET THIS ERROR CAN YOU CHECK
THE DIRECTORY LIST AGAINST THE MENU PROGRAM? AND PLEASE ACCEPT MY
APOLOGIES.

RE THE BACK ISSUES I AM GOING TO HAVE TO FIND THE TIME TO GO OVER THESE
AND PRINT A LIST OF THE PROBLEMS SO THAT IT CAN BE REFERED TO. TROUBLE IS
SOME ERRORS ARE NOT BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION AND I OFTEN DON'T FIND THEM
MYSELF. YOU SEE I TRY OUT MOST OF THE THINGS WHICH ARE SENT IN THEIR
ORIGINAL FORM. I PUT THEM ONTO THE EUG DISC AND TEST THEM AS FAR AS
POSSABLE BUT OCCASIONALLY MISS SOME THINGS. I NEED FEEDBACK FROM YOU AND
OTHE MEMBERS, JUST A NOTE WILL DO IF SOMEONE DOESN'T FANCY WRITING A LONG
LETTER. EVEN A POST CARD!

SORRY ABOUT EUG18 FLIP SIDE. ON IT'S WAY. I DID THIS ONCE BEFORE AND THE
MEMBER WROTE BACK, SOMETHING LIKE THIS, 'I DISCOVERED THAT SIDEONE WAS
IN FACT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE DISC EVEN THOUGH ONE WAS CLEVERLY DISGUISED
AS SIDE 2'
