Bio: Hexadecimal Dump and Tone Dialler By Dave Lawrence Run this application to install two icons on the icon bar. The right-hand icon is the hexadecimal dump module, and the left-hand icon is the tone dialler. To use the hexadecimal dump, simply drag any file to the icon. If Edit (or an equivalent editor) is loaded, then the hex dump will be loaded into the editor, otherwise a save box will pop up, allowing you to save the dump as a text file. If you wish to change the format of the dump, click on the hex dump icon. This brings up a window in which various options can be set. 'Bytes' and 'Words' cause the dump to display values in bytes or words. The 'Width' field determines how many bytes are displayed on each line of the dump. 'Length' gives the number of lines which are displayed in each block: to make the list continuous, set the length to zero. Finally, if 'ASCII' is ticked, then the ASCII characters are shown down the right-hand side, otherwise they are not. To use the Tone Dialler, simply click on the icon. A window will pop up into which you can type the number to dial: pressing RETURN or clicking on OK will dial that number. If you are on a digital telephone exchange, then holding the phone mouthpiece next to your computer's speaker will actually dial that number. The main Bio menu can be brought up by clicking Menu over either of the icons. The 'Process' submenu determines which of the Bio modules are displayed, and the 'Set default' entry saves the current configuration as the default. To remove just one icon, choose 'Quit', and to remove the whole Bio system, go into the 'Quit' submenu and choose 'All'. � Copyright BBC Acorn User 1993
