!Sibelius7/!Help/Attachment

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

DEFINITION

Most objects are 'attached' horizontally to
rhythmic positions in the music, and
vertically to particular staves. If you drag
a note left or right, or a stave up and down,
all objects attached to it will move around
  as well.

PLACES OBJECTS CAN'T GO

To the right of a system there is no rhythmic
position for objects to attach to. Similarly,
in totally blank areas of the page there are
no staves to attach to. Hence you can't put
objects (e.g. text) in these places, or
Sibelius would not know where to move them
  when the score was reformatted.

HORIZONTAL ATTACHMENT

Objects placed directly over a note attach to
that note. Objects placed between two notes
attach to a point between the notes (see
  manual for details).

Text and other objects put to the left of a
  stave attach to the first bar of that stave;
so to ensure the bar stays at the start of
the stave, you should put a system break at
the end of the previous system.

VERTICAL ATTACHMENT

Text, lines and transfers between two staves
can be attached to either staves. This matters
for part extraction, so Sibelius knows which
part to put a marking into.

When you copy or select a piece of text, a
line or a transfer in an ambiguous position,
a hand-shaped pointer appears pointing to the
  stave it is attached to.

When you drag a piece of text or a transfer
from one stave onto another, it will attach
to the new stave, and the hand pointer will
reappear pointing to the new stave.
