This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Archrome -------- By John Wigham -------------- Starting The Program Before running !Archrome you must let the computer know where the !System application is. This holds the shared system resources which programs, such as !Archrome, sometimes need to operate properly. To do this you just take your system disk or Applications disk 1 and insert it into the disk drive and click on the drive icon on the icon bar. The directory viewer will open up on the desktop and display the !System application icon. Now you must do the same for the !Fonts application if you want to use outline fonts in !Archrome. Once the computer knows where these files are, you can run !Archrome. You may be instructed to insert the disks which hold the !System and !Fonts applications during the loading sequence. Once the various disks have been inserted, the application will install itself on the icon bar and the picture editing window will open up on the desktop. !Archrome is then ready for use. Known Problems A program of this size and complexity is bound to have a few bugs. Two came to light just before publication and there was no time to do remove them from the program. We can, however, warn you about them so that you are not confounded. The first problem concerns those who have organised their outline font collections with the help of one of the many PD font organisers available. The !Fonts application must setup the Font$Path system variable correctly and load the font manager module. This has to be done before loading !Archrome. Often all that is needed to do this is to double click on the !Fonts application icon. If this is not done then !Archrome will not load properly. It will load properly if no !Fonts application is seen by the computer. In that case it will only offer the system font on the font selection menu. The other bug, which all users will come across, occurs when editing brushes. When you select one of the icons on the right of the brush editing window, an error window appears. It reports that !Archrome has suffered an internal error and that you should save your work. Do as it says, and save your picture. However, do not worry about reloading the application because the bug does not seem to adversely affect the operation of the program.
