!OmniDesk/Utilities/!Coords/!Help

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Coordinates
~~~~~~~~~~~
An OmniDesk Utility
by Richard G. Hallas
Coordinates supplies various items of information about the mouse pointer. The left half of the window shows its current coordinates in both screen pixels and Operating System units, which are more useful to programmers. The coordinates labelled "Window relative" are of particular interest and use to programmers, as they give the coordinates of the pointer within whatever window it is pointing to: that is, each individual window has its own set of coordinates. In fact, the origin of most windows is at the top left corner (in contrast to the screen, where it is at the bottom left); however, that is not universally true.
The unique numeric identifiers of windows and icons are also displayed. RISC OS 3 users will also find that correct information is shown for the icon-bar coordinates (which is not possible under RISC OS 2).
Opening the main menu over the coordinates window presents the main utility menu:
'Info' leads to a standard information window.
'Window position' leads to a window which lets you determine where the coordinates window appears on the screen. This corresponds to an invisible grid, and when you change screen mode the window will snap to this grid. (This feature can be disabled by clicking <Adjust> on the small window icon, which makes it disappear.)
'Save settings' will save the screen location of the coordinates window.
