This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Archimedes World Cover Disk
November 1992
This is the November92 issue of Archimedes World. We select only
the best software for publication to make sure you have genuinely
useful programs. Read about the programs in the magazine to
understand how to use them fully.
All the programs on this disk, unless otherwise stated, are
copyright Argus Specialist Publications, 1992. They may not be
copied or resold except for the purposes of making a back-up copy.
They should NOT be distributed as Public Domain.
Purchase of Archimedes World by a school or college
is inclusive of a site licence for the software.
Keep It Safe
Before doing anything else, make a backup of this disk. Only use
the backup so that if anything goes wrong, such as accidentally
deleting a file, you can just make another backup from the
original.
Archived
The !AWNov92 application contains all the Archimedes World
software, stored in the 'Goodies' directory. To get as much data
on the disk as possible it is archived using David Pilling's
!ArcFS application. The '!AWNov92' application, when de-archived,
will not fit on a single floppy disk. You can copy it to a hard
disk and it will run perfectly well from there.
Running
To enable you to run software from the archive we include a copy
of !ArcFS. This application allows loading of archived software as
if it were stored in the usual way. The only difference you will
experience is slower loading. This is a small price to pay for
almost twice as much software on disk. !ArcFS is a public domain
utility and can be freely copied subject to the conditions stated
in the !Help text file inside the application directory.
Copying Software
When the !AWNov92 application icon is dragged from the archive
window to another disk it is de-archived as it is copied. To run
the software uncompressed from the RAM disk it will need to be set
to at least 1700k. If you have 2Mb or more of RAM then you can
create an 800K RAM disk and copy the !AWNov92 archive to there.
This greatly speeds up the loading of software from the archive.
You can copy individual programs from the cover disk if you
choose. Once the application's directory viewer has opened up you
can then drag the contents of the viewer to a blank disk. The
files will be de-archived as they are copied. They can then be
loaded without using the Waiter disk menu or !ArcFS. If you have
any difficulties running software from the archive then it is best
to copy the programs to another disk and try running them from
there.
Documentation
All the programs on the disk are fully documented in Archimedes
World. Any additional documentation may be found in the relevant
directories. Text files can be displayed from the menu using our
built-in text display module. The text display menu allows you to
print a hard copy. Make sure that your printer is on line and
ready to print.
Using the Menu
The disk menu makes it easy for you to run the programs and read
any instructions. Some items on the main menu lead to a sub-menu
while others run applications or display text. To select a menu
item click the select button once over its icon. When an item is
selected, the menu disappears from the desktop. To get the menu
back, click on the waiter on the icon bar. The menu will appear
exactly as you left it.
To run a program, simply click once on the icon. There may be
instructions on using the program which can be viewed on screen.
Read the instructions before you run the programs as they tell you
what to do when using them. The last item on each sub-menu is the
'Previous menu' option which takes you back to the previous menu.
Programs Disc November 1992
QFR
This month we bring you a very useful item called 'QFR'
which means Quick File Recovery, this item is very useful to those of
you have lost files, or have deleted them at one time or another.
What !QFR does is recover all or most your data if a disk has become
corrupted, this means that even deleted files can be recovered from
a disk.
For further instructions see magazine Article, there is also a manual
included which is ten pages long, so make sure you have enough paper in
your printer before starting the print run.
Warning:
As the program has a save feature, it is advisable that
you copy the program to a newly formatted disk. The
version of ArcFS on the cover disk only allows reading of
disks, and does not allow saving any in any form.
Fire Flight
On this months cover disk we bring you a game called Fire Flight,
this is a superb version of a flight simulator, in which you pilot
your aircraft and hunt down enemy planes, plus all those bases as well
there is a full flight briefing included with this game, so it is advisable
to read this fisrt before piloting your fighter, you will find full details
in the Open Viewer directory, on the cover disk.
Solitare
The game solitaire has been around for many years. On the cover disk this
month, we bring you a desktop version, with features like, setting your own
option to finish the game, plus the chance to restart the game at any time
and this all runs from the Desktop...

Feed The Tree
Here is a nice little game entitled feed the tree, in this you have
to feed the tree by keeping it watered, this is done by moving from left
to right and collecting the rain drops. For further instructions look in
the Open Viewer directory on this months cover disk..
Warning:
As feed the tree requires a lot of sprite,and screen size, it would
be advisable if you transfered the game to a new disk.
This must be done before running the program, to copy
the file use the Open Viewer provided for this game.
Chaos Demo
This is a game in which you have destroy asteroids of certain sizes
and different shaped enemies as well. There is also a choice of keyboard
and mouse options, to allow movement of your ship. For further instructions
see Magazine and the Open Viewer of the cover disk.
Scorpious
In this new game from Arxxe systems you pilot your ship through a barrage
of aliens, this is a sideways scrolling type game, which has many good
explosive effects plus the usual array of enemies.

Hard Disk Users Warning:
Many of the programs on this disk are generally set for
drive 0, and of course sometimes you will find certain
programs will not load, the reason for this error is that
you may have configured your drive to 4, rather than zero,
if a program does not load and gives an error the try
configuring the drive back to zero, this is done by
pressing F12 from desktop and then typing *Configure Drive
0, this should then hopefully cut out any errors caused by
any program run from the menuing system.
Regular Features
In the Adverts section there are details of new products available
for the Archimedes. Also there are forms for subscriptions,
software submissions and back issue orders which can be loaded
into a text editor, filled in and printed out.
Viruses
We take viruses seriously here at Archimedes World so our cover
disks are checked thoroughly to ensure that they are virus free.
We can only check for known viruses and there is the small
possibility of new, undocumented viruses slipping through our
checking procedure.
We want YOUR program
Not only do we want your program but we're also willing to pay for
it. We are interested in applications, utilities, graphic screens,
animation, clip art sprite/Draw files, music, sound samples,
games, demos and anything else that is interesting and original.
You should also note that RISC-OS applications stand the best
chance of publication.
You should always send in your program submissions complete with
the submission form and and SAE. Submission forms can be found on
this disk and inside the magazine (photocopies are accepted).
Program submissions are usually processed within two weeks of
receipt, however you should allow up to six weeks for a reply as
software evaluation and testing can take quite some time.

The standard of software on this cover disk is very high and is
typical of the quality of software which has been published by
Archimedes World (and A&B Computing) over the last few years. To
