Dear Gus,
Last summer I purchaced my Plus 3 second hand. I got an original copy of
Acornsoft's Plus 3 Games disc with it. I case you don't know it it
contains three Acorn Electron games, Firebug, Maze and Planetoid. However
I was told before I bought it, it was to a certain extend corrupted. Back
then it was just the Maze game that had this affliction but I had another
copy of this game so I was not worried. However since then it has spread
to Planetiod which is now unuseable.
I ws wondering how to solve this problem. The simplest solution would be
to get a copy of this disc. I do not intend though to break the lawbut I
wondered if if it was legal to do so seing that I already own a copy
(albeit a corrupted one). Do you know the answer? If it is maybe someone
in EUG could help me out?
The only other solution I could think of is in two stages. Firstly, is
there a program in exixtance that can copy only a a number of sectors of a
disc or could such a program be written? It would mean I could copy the
working part of the disc when the second stage would come into use. That
is I would painstakingly work through the copy disc, to find where the
corrupted parts of Maze and Planetoid are. Then I would get a printout of
that section of the program from the working (cassette based) versions of
the two dodgy games which I would hope that someone would lend me. This
would leave me free to type in the code to a sector editor whiuch would
enter it into the copy of the disc. I believe it would be entirely within
my rights to do this since I would not be pirating the cassettes.
Can you tell me if the first suggestion would be allowed and if not
publicised the second suggestion in EUG? Remenber I am really desperate
for a solution. I got addicted to planetiod and I am having withdrawal
effects. I need help to get the game back to it's former glory.

WOULD OFFEND ANY COPYWRITE LAWS, I SUSPECT IT WOULD. HOWEVER IT WOULD BE
A BIT CHIRLISH OF ACORN TO OBJECT SINCE YOU DO AFTER ALL OWN AN ORIGINAL
YET UNUSEABLE COPY IN ANY CASE. HOPEFULLY SOMEONE CAN HEKLP OUT EITHER
