StarInfo/Baker/!Guitar/Utilities/Chords/Help
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Guitar Chords This directory/archive contains about 140 chords in Draw format in the 7 main keys- A,B,C,D,E,F,G. They are from a book I hired out from my local library called "100+ Essential Guitar Chords" by Wise Publications. Now you might think I'm a bit of an idiot, to spend hours on end sitting down in front of Draw, copying these chords down and you're probably right. But as I'm in the second year of A-levels at the moment, I needed something interesting to do! Besides it gives other guitarists a cheap way of learning chords, rather than have to buy a book on them. The idea of them is to print them out, but I suppose if you don't have a printer you can just look at them on the screen and learn them that way. I'm actually a programmer and have released a few programs as freeware, but I find programming next to impossible to do at the moment because:- a) I have little spare time to really get into a project. b) I'm a lazy so and so, always planning things but never actually starting them. I've got two or three fairly developed games ideas written down but I couldn't be bothered to start programming them. Maybe I'll get round to them when I've finished my A-levels in June '96. The book also had chords in the keys of Bb and F# but I decided that these were to similar to their natural keys to be worth the effort of copying. It's quite easy to work them out anyway. To get the chords in Bb drop the ones in B natural by 1 fret, it works for most of them. For F# raise the chords in F natural up by 1 fret. I think it's almost inevitable that one or two mistakes will have slipped my attention, although I have given each sheet several checks. It should be obvious when trying to play a chord from the ones here whether it is correct or not so errors in my copying job won't be a problem. The presentation is similar to the book from which I got them but because I'm copying them down by hand it's difficult to get everthing perfectly aligned, placed etc. I assure you though, they're all legible. All chords are in standard chord boxes, but for beginners here's something on how to read them. Each chord box shows a section of the guitar neck. The vertical lines are the strings, the thickest one being string 6 tuned to E, the line furthest to the left. The horizontal lines are the frets. Behind these you place the finger which the circled number says, on the string on which it is placed. On some of the chords, you'll see to the right of the box "8th fret" or "3rd fret" etc. Here, you move up to this fret and place the root of the chord at this fret. An X over a string means you don't play it and a string with no markings at all is played open. Just a quick note. If you find the G major (i) chord a bit tricky (like me) then what you can do is to hook your thumb over the neck to press on the 6th string at the third fret and use it to mute the 5th string. Use your first finger to press the 1st string at the 3rd fret. You can make two string power chords (my preferred method) by placing your first finger on a bass string and then placing your 2nd finger on the string below two frets up. The name of the chord is the dictated by the position your first finger is. For example, the G power chord is best played with your first finger on string 6 at the third fret and you second finger on string 5 at the 5th fret. Should you wish to contact me then you can write to:- David Baker, 18 Moor Lane, Thornton, Liverpool, L23 4TW A reply is guaranteed.
