Examples/!Animals/hedgehog

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

The hedgehog grows up to 25 cm. in length, with long spines that lie flat, but stand up when the animal rolls into a ball for protection. It lives in fields, open woods and gardens all over Britain. It feeds on insects, snails, slugs and also the eggs of young ground-nesting birds. The hedgehog will also provoke an adder, (it is immune to its venom), until all the venom is exhausted, when it will kill the adder. The hedgehog is preyed upon by foxes and badgers. The female gives birth to one or two litters a year, each litter consisting of up to seven young. The nest may be in a hedge, under a tree or in a disused rabbit hole. The hedgehog hibernates between October and November.
