StarInfo/Mellor/!SpotOn/!Help/helptext

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

What is it? How do I play it?
SpotOn is a little puzzle game. The aim is to arrange the coloured spots into rows and/or columns of similar colours.

Starting a new game
This can be done by clicking Select on the iconbar icon or choosing 'New game...' from the menu. A dialogue box will be shown - from here you can choose various different options detailed below. You can also load and save the settings to disc as defaults.

Size
This controls the size of the playing area. You can control the width and height seperately, by clicking on the up/down arrows. The smallest size is 3x3, the largest is 8x8.

Colours
This lets you choose which colours are used in the game. Note that not all the colours you select will be used if the playing area isn't large enough. You must have at least two colours selected - you will be warned if you try to start the game with less.

Layout
This controls how the finished puzzle will look - horizontal lines are the easier than ones that turn corners.

Skill level
This sets the difficulty of the game. Harder games take more moves to complete.

Playing the game
You can scroll each row or column of spots by clicking on the corresponding arrows with Select. Clicking with Adjust scrolls in the opposite direction. A small picture of the finished puzzle is shown to the left of the playing area - the game is complete when you match this pattern exactly. The number of moves you have taken is also shown.

Clicking Menu in the game window opens a menu, where you can start a new game or save your current position. You can reload a saved position by double-clicking on it or by dragging its filer icon to the iconbar icon.
