This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

> Help File for !AUIndex Version : 1.00 (23 Jul 1995) Author : Paul Burns (aka The Flying Twig) Date : March '91 - May '96 This application is designed to allow you to easily locate articles that have appeared in Acorn User over the past few years. To Load !AUIndex Double-Click on it's icon in the directory display. When it is loaded, clicking with Select or adjust on it's icon bar icon will bring up the main window. Clicking menu on the icon will bring up the usual Info and Quit options. At the top of the window are two Radio icons. These will show whether the Entire Index or just the results of the Last Search are being displayed. Clicking on these icons will switch between the two modes. Below these are the current article number and the total number of articles listed, in the current mode. In the Centre section of window are the details of the current article. This shows the topic and a description of the current article along with details of the Month, Year, Issue Number and Page number. In the top left corner of this section is the Edit Details icon. Clicking on this icon will allow you to edit the details of the article being displayed. This option is greyed out when viewing the Last Search. When the Edit window is displayed it will contain the details of the current article which you can edit using the adjuster arrows and the writeable icons. You can also choose a new topic by choosing from the pop-up menu which is accessed by clicking on the icon to the right of the �Topic� icon. You can confirm you changes by clicking on the OK icon or pressing Return whilst editing the Description. You can cancel the edit operation without updating the index by clicking on the Cancel icon or closing the window. You can delete the article from the index by clicking on the Delete icon. At the bottom of the window are the icons to move through the list of articles. Clicking Select on the single,double and triple arrow icons will move 1, 10 or 100 article in that direction, respectively. Clicking with Adjust will move you in the opposite direction. If you try to move past either first or last articles then a wrap-around effect occurs. So, for example, clicking select on the single right arrow whilst displaying the last article, will move you onto the first article. You can move forwards/backwards to the next/last issue by clicking on the adjuster arrows next to the �Month� icon. Similarly you can move forwards/backwards a year by clicking on the arrows next to the �Year� icon You can also move through the index by topic. By clicking on the pop-up menu icon next to the �Topic� icon you can choose a topic and you will be moved forward to the next occurence of that topic. The last menu option is writeable so you can type in topics not listed on the menu. To Perform a search for articles, click Menu in the main window and move the pointer across to the Search sub-menu. Click in the writeable icon and type in the string to search for. When you press Return of click on the OK button the search will start. When the search is completed Display Last Search will be selected and the articles that matched the search are displayed. If no articles were found then Display Entire Index is selected and 'Not Found' is shown in the Display Last Search icon. To add articles to the index select 'Update...' from the main menu. A window will be opened containing the current Issue Number, Month and Year (Read from the System Clock). Clicking on any of the arrows will increase or decrease the value inside the icon. Alternatively you can type the information into the writeable icons (Except the Month). Once the correct Issue and Page have been selected you can type in the topic of the article followed by a short description. You can also choose a Topic for the article by choosing from the pop-up menu which is accessed by clicking on the icon the right of the �Topic� icon. Pressing Return while the caret is in the Description icon or clicking on OK will save the article in the Index File. Clicking on Cancel will close the window without saving the information. Articles can also be added by dragging an AUIndex file containing the relevent data onto the iconbar icon. It will then be inserted into the Index File. Articles can be saved out to a file by using the Save Issue menu option. All articles from a particlular issue can be saved or articles from a range of issues.
