Intoduction
-----------
        The year is 2007 rebel forces from across the border have started their advance into your independent country. They have set up several well hidden air fields to the North, West and South and are preparing to make bombing raids into your country to the east. An urgent communication to your lone air field outpost has supplied you with orders to neutralise the threat while time still remains. Back up forces are still a few days away.
        Spy satellites to have picked up the location of the enemy runways and pinpointed the frequencies that each air field beacon is using, this information will enable you to seek out the bases. The satellite has also noticed that recently the base to the south of you has grown considerably in size. Military sources believe that it is being supplied with equipment but unlike the other bases it is by large cargo jets not mobile transporter trucks.
        The exact whereabouts of the cargo plane air field are not known but the intelligence department believes it may be a positioned a few miles into your own country. The tactical defence department has supplied you with the homing frequencies of the air field beacons and the order the airfields should be attacked in. They have been programmed into the on board computer of you FF-47 Strategic fighter (Nick named the Fire Flight).

        The Commander of the national air force wishes you success in your mission and reminds you of its national importance.

Tactics
-------
        The FF-47 has been programmed with the positions of known bases, the waypoint indicator will show the direction of the currently selected homing beacon (0 is your own airfield) attempt to destroy the airfields in the order they are numbered by the waypoint indicator for a gradual increase in difficulty. Destroy the aircraft hangers at the air fields to stop more fighter jets from being dispatched, and destroy any anti aircraft gun enplacements and SAM (surface to air missile) enplacements. Also seek and destroy any cargo plane and mobile transported bases to prevent airfields from being re stocked. You can land on enemy runways to refuel and rearm.

        Use the mouse to control the movement of the plane, Move it downwards to climb and push forwards to dive. Moving left or right will cause the aircraft to bank. The keys are as follows;

INSTRUMENTS
-----------
        The HUD (head up display) displays some of the information shown on the instrument panel. This includes the compass at the top and the way point indicator (The red notch) to show direction to selected beacon. The altitude and speed of the craft and the pitch bars.
The four pronged target shows the direction the plane is pointing in and in which direction the cannon is fired. The 3 pronged target shows the actual direction the plane is flying in and will slip of the bottom if you begin to stall.
        The instrument panel shows the same things as the head up display but also contains the indicator lights on the right to show the state of the brakes, landing gear etc. and warning and damage lights to alert you when the jet has suffered a hit or is in danger. There is also the way point indicator which displays the direction of the selected beacon and the radar which displays the radar positions of objects with points and the infra red direction of objects behind you with lines.

How to fly
----------
        Use the throttle controls to accelerate down the runway. Pull back and when you reach about 180 Knots you should start to climb.
       Make sure you landing gear is down when you attempt to land and fly in low and straight. Cut the engine throttle to a minimum and keep an eye on the direction indicator on the HUD to make sure you are not going to hit the runway at to great an angle. When you hear your wheels screech switch off your engine and activate wheel and air brakes to come to a halt, you will now be rearmed and refuelled.

        Use mouse button 1 to fire your cannon at any time and use the backspace key to cycle through the secondary weapon selections these include;

        UNGUIDED ROCKETS (R) which you will need to aim carefully on a ground target before firing them and remember to take into account gravity and speed.

        And AIR-AIR (AA) and AIR-GROUND (A5) missiles, both of these missiles need to be locked onto a target before firing this is done by lining up the target on your frontal display and pressing Return, a green box should now appear around it, it will remain on for 30 seconds, after that you will have to re-aim it.
All the secondary weapons are fired using the second mouse button. 


Hints
-----

Leave any ARM3 chips etc. enabled for smoother graphics and game-play (game should still play at standard speed though)

Use 'S' to toggle the graduated sky colors off for smother graphics on ARM2 Machines.

Practise taking off and landing on your own runway first.

Raise landing gear so you can go faster.

Practise flying low and as slowly as possible for attack runs.

Release chaffs and/or flairs when you hear the enemy missile launch warning and dodge about to avoid a hit.

Destroy ground defences before attempting to land on a run way.

Use air brakes to help you to fly slowly.
                                                         
For a greater chance of AIR-AIR guided missiles reaching their targets wait until the green "lock-on-box" turns red (this happens if you get almost directly behind the enemy aircraft)

Only launch guided missiles when the "lock-on-box" is inside the HUD area or they will probably miss their targets.

Guided missiles can be locked onto target up to 30 Km away but they only have a range of just over 10 Km

Destroy cargo planes, transporters and their bases so that they do not keep restocking the airfields.

Finally don't forget to eject if you are in a death dive!
