This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

ReadMe file for Pscan installation - !PSinstall - January 1998 ============================================================== IMPORTANT NOTE: Pscan will not work on anything other than an Acorn Risc PC with at least 1MB of VRAM. It has not yet been tested on the A7000+. It would not work on the earlier A7000 because of screen mode limitations but it might work on the newer A7000+ as this model has an increased range of screen modes. If you downloaded Pscan from the internet (or a BBS) you should unzip the archive using !SparkPlug. Unzip the archive by dragging PSCAN/ZIP on to the !SparkPlug icon on the icon bar. Do not attempt to run the installation program directly from the archive as it will not work properly. When SparkPlug has finished you should have two files; this ReadMe and the !PSinstall application. !PSinstall can be used to install !Pscan from scratch or to update an existing version. In either case, start !PSinstall in the usual way with a double-click on its icon in a filer window. The installation window will now be displayed. New users should now perform a full installation. Simply drag the Pscan icon from the PSinstall window into any convenient directory on any hard drive. If you make a mistake, click Reset and drag the icon again. The full pathname of the directory that Pscan will be installed in will be displayed in the PSinstall window. When you are sure this is correct, click Continue and the installation will be carried out. Existing Pscan users (registered or not) should drag their old !Pscan icon from its filer window (or the pinboard) into the PSinstall window. Click continue and your copy of Pscan will be updated to the very latest version, retaining all your old configuration settings and thumbnail files. Your old !Pscan will be renamed to X!Pscan and if present your !PscanDir directory (used in some older versions of Pscan but now discontinued) will be renamed to X!PscanDir. This is a precautionary measure; you can delete the new !Pscan and reinstate the old version if something goes badly wrong with the upgrade, though hopefully this will not be necessary. Once you are happy that the new version is working correctly you can delete X!Pscan and X!PscanDir. Notes for new users ------------------- Once the installation is complete, double-click on !Pscan to install it on the icon bar. The icon bar menu includes a Manual option, which will display the complete Pscan manual. Read the manual - or at least the first few chapters - before going any further. Type in your callsign, PIN number (as issued by G4IJE) and name. Click OK and the registration process will be quickly completed; go to the Info option on the icon bar menu to confirm that your name and callsign are shown in the Owner box. The registration process should be carried out each time you receive a new version of Pscan (but just once per version). Unless I change the system for some reason, the PIN number you are issued with will remain effective with all future versions of Pscan. The level of security offered by the PIN number system is not great, but even so I would prefer it if you did not pass on your PIN number to others.
