They are now almost impossable to find. I have asked a number of friends involved in the computer trade to get some for me but without success. A number of places have said that they have them but when an order is placed they simply don't show up. There are some on the market at high price, `1 per disc and most of the ones I order I suspect have been aquired by these sources. Now I know I have been suggesting to 5.25" using EUG members to try to find a 3.5" drive but I can assure that this problem is unrelated. We have 3 alternatives: 1, 5.25" using members can supply their own disc. I am not keen on this because discs can easily be lost but more importantly because of possable damage to my precious 5.25" drives from dirty discs. I can check submission discs because there are relatively few but I cannot be sure of checking all the 5.25" discs sent for duplication. It only takes one seriously dirty disc to ruin a drive. Heads cannot now be repaired or replaced and I don't want to risk this. I have one ruined drive in my attic from a dirty EUG submission disc from some time ago. 2, 5.25" using members can pay considerably extra for their copy of EUG. I am not keen on this, and frankly I don't think EUG members will be either. Also I don't know how long even the high price 5.25" discs will be available. 3. 5.25" using members can buy a 3.5" drive. If anyone knows of a source of a large quantity of 5.25" DD DS discs not HD DS which are for PC's at a reasonable price then please do contact me ASAP. I really need to know what the 5.25" using members think. I have enough discs for EUG27 and no more. If I do not hear from you before the end of October I will simply wait until I do. I'm very sorry, I cannot think of anything else I can do. Well I had a number of things to rant about but to be honest this turn of events with the 5.25" discs had rather depressed me. On the bright side, at least I now have an excuse for being late with EUG. There are a couple of submissions which I have had to hold over for EUG28 but please do send in some more because there are not enough for a full EUG. Great news, I have just received a large consignment of 5.25" DD DS discs, enough in fact with current consumption to last about 24 years! The above can be ignored, Gus is now happy again. EUG has been getting latter and later each time, I would really like to get back to the propper publishing date. I will try to have EUG28 out by the beginning of October when it should have been published. Please send in your submissions soon.
