ArtToSpr/WavePlayer/Help/TextHelp/2d-Buffer

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+

The buffer options window can be accessed by clicking on the little RAM
chip icon in the bottom-left of the format options window. Again, at the top
is the file type (if recognised), eg. 'Desktop Tracker'.

The main icon indicates how much memory is used *per buffer*. As there are
two buffers, the required memory is twice that shown. However, the slot size
taken may be slightly more, due to a few bytes of header information. To
combat this, set the buffer to something like 31Kb or 63Kb instead of 32Kb or
64Kb.

The first two preset icons set the size of one buffer to one seconds and
two seconds audio respectively, according to the current frequency setting.
This means that there will be a one or two seconds pause respectively,
between loading the next part of the sample to play. The last two presets
test the speed of the media, and set the size of one buffer so that the time
spent loading is 10cs (0.10secs) or 50cs (0.50secs) respectively. (NB. On
slow devices, such as floppies, the test may take a few seconds.)

Clicking on the type menu icon brings up a list of recognised formats.
Selecting one of these will make Wave Player attempt to read the sample in
that format. This is useful if the sample has the wrong filetype.
