VIEW/GEOGRAPHY/LIMITS

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

CE LIMITATIONS

I do realise that there are various limitations contained
in this project which should be stated in order to achieve a full
understanding of this whole report. Obviously time can be counted
as a limitation and if I had longer for this project I could
probably have gone into more detail over certain aspects. However,
as it stands I think I have covered a number of different factors
amd I feel I have achieved a good understanding of the theory.

I also accept that a greater period of time to study the
parish would have enabled me to draw more accurate conclusions -
perhaps over a period of some years. Also, I was limited by my age
and lack of equipment. If a large company were to carry out my task
they would probably use a good deal of geographical equipment to
take readings.

Looking back over this project I realise that Chipstead
parish is a specific example of a certain type of settlement, and
any conclusions drawn are going to be very specific to the area.
All towns and villages are at least slightly different from each
other so a general rule is very hard to draw. However, as I said, I
do think this project has helped me to understand more clearly the
factors which at least partly cause land use to differ.

I did encounter some problems when carrying out this
project (not least climbing up all those steep hills!). Many of the
conclusions which I drew were not completely backed up by my data,
but the general idea was still there to see. Also, I found that
carrying out some of the fieldwork was quite tricky when I had to
find out what was past a set of fields and there was no visible
path through. I didn't actually find the farmers' infomation a
great help - all I got from it were the uses of their land and not
many explanations to why this was so.

With the benefit of hindsight, I think there are some
things I would change. When collecting the data I would take a map
with me to mark on the land use and physicalfactorson the way -
thus making my readings more accurate. I would also cover a larger
area in order to get some comparisons of land use and factors.
However in my opinion this project did manage to achieve some
geographical ideas and definately promoted me to think about them
in quite some depth.
