Manual/Page04
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Draw TechWriter @ , Homerton.Medium Trinity.Medium T _ 3 0 - - _ 3. The Backdrop Filing System _ Y 3 The Backdrop Filing System provided by Larger is an extension of the facilities offered _ Y 3 by RISC OS 3s Pinboard utility. All of the functionality provided by Pinboard is d _ Y 3 q present in Larger, with many major extensions. T 3 [ # # 0 What does it do and why use it? D 3 During the course of using your computer, you will probably find that there a few D 3 pieces of software you use much more than others. (Which packages these are D 3 obviously vary from user to user according to what he/she uses the computer for.) The D 3 backdrop filing system offers a fast way of accessing these commonly used programs. D 3 n Applications, directories and data files can all be placed on the backdrop, where they D 3 M can be run, examined or edited exactly as if they were in a filer window. P 3 2 # # Setting up your backdrop . 3 All of this probably sounds a bit complicated - in fact it is very simple indeed. The best . 3 way to understand this is to actually try what we are describing, so if you are sitting in . 3 front of your computer run Larger now. Double-clicking the !Larger icon runs the . 3 g program, and installs it on the icon bar. (Once again, if you are unsure about any of h . 3 E this, the Welcome guide should explain it all.) D . 3 @ @> @ 3 0 To put applications, directories or data files on the backdrop, simply drag them from a 3 0 filer window into a blank bit of the backdrop window. They should then appear 3 0 somewhere on the backdrop. By default, every item dropped on the backdrop is placed D 3 0 on a plinth. 3 l Click on the Apps icon on the icon bar. Now, from the window that appears, drag 3 J !Edit to the backdrop. A plinth like the one to the right should appear somewhere on 3 ) the backdrop. (By default, this will appear on the right hand side at the bottom.) Drop \ 3 on some directories, and data files. D 3 @ @ @ @ 3 Items dropped on the backdrop in this way, are not actually copied to the backdrop. 3 They are just pointers to the real copies of the software. They can however be 3 manipulated in exactly the same ways as the real copies of the software can be. P + 3 o # # D Manipulating backdrop items k 3 - Any manipulations performed on the items on the backdrop map through to the real k 3 - files that they represent. The only exception to this rule is deletion. If a file on the k 3 - backdrop is removed, then it is removed from the backdrop, but the original is k 3 - unchanged. To reflect this difference, the menu option for this has been changed from L k 3 - Delete to Remove. 3 m H Single clicking on an icon selects it, or if already selected, deselects it. Similarly, drag 3 m & boxes can be used to select larger groups of icons. Clicking an icon with the right hand | 3 m button selects it, and does not deselect any previously selected icons. 3 Double-clicking an icon performs exactly the same operation as would be performed T _ 7 3 b _ G 3.
