Wecome to Draggie! Draggie provides an easy to use system of menus that allows you to access frequently used files and directories at the press of a button or the click of a mouse. This demo version has the save and load options disabled and will quit after 15 minutes. Using Draggie ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Below is a textual version of the Draggie manual. When you order the full version you will get the paper version of this. Menus ~~~~~ Creating a menu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To create a menu either click select on the iconbar icon or click menu on the iconbar icon and go to 'New menu', type in a name and press return. A gray box should appear at the top of the screen. If you create more menus than can fit on the screen, you can scroll the menus left and right by holding down Ctrl and dragging one of the menu titles to the left or right. Time and memory functions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can display either the current time or the free memory as a menu title. To do this repeat the above, supplying a name of -time to display the time or -mem to display the amount of free memory. Menu options ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Click menu and go to 'Menu '....''. You should see three options, Rename, Delete and Close. The first two are fairly self explanatory but close needs a little more explanation. The close option is provided to close a menu if the title disappears off the bottom of the screen. Menu items ~~~~~~~~~~ Adding items to a menu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To add an item to a menu, simply drag a file from a filer window and drop it on the menu. The menu will move down to show the new menu item. Opening and closing menus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Once you have added an item to a menu you can open and close it. This can be done by simply clicking on a menu title and dragging it up and down. If select is used, the menu will come to the front, but if adjust is used it will stay at its current position. You can also use double clicks on the menu title to open and close the menu: � A double click with select will close the menu if it is fully open otherwise close the menu. � A double click with adjust will open the menu if it is fully closed otherwise open the menu. Using menu items ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The items in a menu are used like files in a filer window. They can be double-clicked to run them or can be dragged to other applications. They can be copied by dragging to the filer or other menus. Using shift you can select more than one item at once. The item menu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most of the options are the same as for the filer options and you should refer to your user guide that came with your computer. There are a few exceptions: Dragging the copy icon to a Draggie menu will copy it to that menu. Text alters just the text on the menu item and not the original file. Sprite defines which sprite should be displayed next to the item. Remove removes the item from the menu without deleting the original file. Hot key allows a key short cut to be applied to a file so it can be run at the press of a key. This makes it much faster to load programs. To use this option go to the 'Hot key' option on the item menu and press the combination you want. A the textual form of this combination will appear in the hot key icon. If you have the same hot key option for more than one item, all the items with the hot key option will be run. There are a few of limitations with this. You can't use Ctrl-U, as this would clear the icon, or Ctrl-M. For the technically minded the reason for this is that the key code for Ctrl-M is the same as for Return. This would mean that every time you pressed return the items with this hot key set would be run. This would obviously create havoc in the Desktop. The Display Menu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The display menu is similar to the filer menu of the same name. Each menu has its own display setting. The 'Don't sort' option is provided as it takes about a second to sort a menu (varying for the amount of items in a menu). When a file is added to a menu, the menu has to be sorted to find out where to put the new file. When you are adding lots of files to a menu at once, Draggie has to sort the menu for each file. This slows the process down considerably. If you choose the 'Don't sort' option before adding the files the menu will not be sorted for each file speeding up the process considerably. You can then sort the files by choosing the option you wish from the Display menu. The display options are local to Draggie and do not effect the filer. The options menu is the same as for the filer and you should refer to your user guide that came with your computer. The options are local to Draggie and do not effect the filer. Classes ~~~~~~~ A class is a group of menus under a certain name. Creating classes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To create a class, click menu on a Draggie menu and go to 'Classes' and then 'New class'. Enter a name and press return. A new item will appear in the menu. Double-click on this and your menus will disappear and be replaced with a single menu. This can be used to create new menus. Now go back to the 'Classes' menu. A menu option should have been added to the bottom of this menu with the name that you entered when you created a new class. It should have a tick by it. Click on any of the other items on the menu below the dashed line, and the menus belonging to that class will appear. You can have up to 30 classes at any one time. Saving ~~~~~~ PLEASE NOTE! The saving and loading options do not work on the demo. To save your menu structure go to the 'Save' menu option on either the iconbar menu or the Menu menu. Drag the save icon to a filer window and a text file will be created. The file contains all the aspects of the menu structure including the current class and display options. The file options are not saved as these are set in the Options window (see the section entitled Options). The default options The default menu can be viewed by opening the iconbar menu and going to 'Default'. There are two options, Sprite and Default. Choosing Default will save the current menu system to a file called Default inside Draggie. This file will be run with Draggie when you load it. Choosing Sprite will save the sprites currently in the Wimp Sprite area (where application and file sprites are put) to a file called Sprites inside Draggie. Draggie will load all the sprites in this file back into memory when it is first run. If you use this option in conjunction with the 'Don't do anything' option in the Options window (see the section called Options) you can save loading time while still having all the icon pictures. This is because it is a lot quicker to load sprites from one file instead of lots of different ones. This file can be edited if you wish. Networks ~~~~~~~~ When the default options are saved they are saved to the location '<Choices$Write>.Draggie'. This enables users of networks to save the default options to an internal hard drive or to a read/write partition. Loading ~~~~~~~ To load a saved file back into Draggie, drag it to either the iconbar icon or the drag window. The drag window can be opened by clicking on 'Drag win...' on either the iconbar menu or the Menu menu. The drag window is provided to allow you to load files into Draggie without the iconbar icon (see the section called Options) as if you dragged it to a menu, Draggie would just add it to it. If the file 'Sprites' or 'Default' are present inside !Draggie they will be loaded (see the section called loading). Options ~~~~~~~ The options window can be brought up by clicking on the 'Options...' item. With this window you can set what happens to applications when they are dragged to a menu. If you set it to run the !Boot file then the sprite will appear next to the item and it will also set up file types and other options for the application. If you just set the Iconsprites option then the sprite will appear next to the item but the other options won't be set up. If you set it to do nothing, the sprite won't appear next to the application unless it has been seen by the filer. The time options can be set up to show either Hours, Minutes and Seconds or just Hours and minutes. The Filer options section sets up the options for items. These can be set temporarily from the options menu in the Menu menu. The iconbar option allows draggie to be run, but not appear on the icon bar. If you save this option with no default file it will be over ridden as, if you had no iconbar icon you could not use the program! Clicking on save will save the options as the default ones and they will be loaded with Draggie. Clicking OK will let you use the current options until you quit Draggie.
