HELP1

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Can anybody help me regarding printers.I have at presnt an old Qume
daisywheel printer rigged up for doing letters. However I have recently had
Sloggers SP64 DTP installed and would really like to get into printing
graphics.Choosing the right printer seems to be a bit of a nightmare as
around the Harrogate area info on Elk suitability is virtually
non-existent.There is Vantage One at Leeds of course but they only have
Seikosha printers and while I'm sure they're fine I woud like to think I
had a choice. There are quite a few Epson compatible printers about but
there also appears to be different types of Epson compatibility. Is this
important ? Or do Printer Drivers cater for this ? I've noticed various
Star printers that seem quite robust and reasonably priced are these
suitable ? Any info would be a help.I could then go see what's available
without looking a total idiot.

Please write to me John Crane at 34 St Andrews Walk Harrogate North
Yorks HG2 7RL or alternatively perhaps someone could write an article
for the mag on this.

WE DID HAVE SOME ARTICLES ON PRINTERS SOME TIME AGO BUT THIS IS SOMETHING
OF CONTINUING INTEREST. CAN WE HERE FROM EVERYONE ABOUT THEIR PRINTERS?
WHAT DO THEY DO AND NOT DO. RELIABILITY, REPLACEMENTS ESPECIALLY RIBBONS
AND SUCH LIKE, COST.

Dear Gus,

Thanks for issue 14 - an excellent job with the time constraints on you.

Roy Warner wanted to know a good spread sheet that doesn't require write
protection in Sideways RAM, he should try Intersheet, a BBC ROM from
Computer Concepts. This package contains two ROMS one labeled Intersheet
the other 'Sheet'. 'Sheet' contains the spreadsheet program and performs
well on the Electron. The Intersheet ROM contains colon commands, when
used in conjunction with other 'Inter' packages data can be transfered
between them without saving and loading from disk. Unfortunately this
system does not work on the Electron.

I don't always have time to read the disk magazine at home so sometimes I
take it to work where I read it at lunch time on their BBC computer.
While reading issue 14 on the BBC I came across a problem with the letters
option from the menu - it responded with a bad mode error message. This
indicated that there was not enough memory to hold the program in MODE 3.
The reason for this error is that the BBC has both DFS and ADFS fitted
which raises PAGE to &1F00, 512 bytes less room than on a machine with
just the ADFS ROM fitted (1D00). I got round this problem by enabling the
shadow RAM but it might be a good idea to keep the file lengths a bit
shorter.

Derek Walker.

POINT TAKEN DEREK. THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT AND I HOPE NO NE WAS UNABLE TO
GET OVER THIS IN THE WAY DEREK DID. IF SO CONTACT ME.

Has anyone got a copy of the BBC ROM version of ViewStore?

If they will lend it to me I will pay the postage both ways of course and
I will return it within a couple of weeks.
