L/Boarer1

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Dear Gus,

A very good EUG21 - how do you find the time? A bit more about Flippys.
I still have problems - I have quickly flashed through EUG21 and this
is a summary of the problems:-
          GMENU1 - A - "Bad name at line 140"
                 - B - "Bad name at line 140"
                 - C - "Not found at line 140"
                 - D - and onwards LOAD's from GMENU1 until,
          GMENU2 - E - "Not found at line 140"
                     - otherwise LOAD's from GMENU2
          PMENU - F & G - I just get "at line 140"
No problems at all with pictures on SIDE4. No problems at all with
SIDE's 1,3 and 5. I'm careful about dust and keep everything covered
when not in use. I also use a Disk Drive Head Cleaner disk
occasionally.

Normally with "not found" or similar I would suspect a programming
error. However, all is not lost for I can, for example, LOAD CASTLE1
and CASTLE2 direct from disk. I can do this with some of the other
programs that should LOAD from the MENU but in some cases the
instructions seem to have been lost and I only have the actual
program.

With more time I may be able to solve these faults but I have always
been in favour of "The Principle of Least Work"! - you may now be able
to tell me what is wrong (or perhaps Richard Dimond) from what I have
said above.

The set-up I am now using is a 64K Electron (MRB off) through the
SLOGGER PLUS2 (Mouse switched on through CLICK - BBRAM active) and into
a SLOGGER ROMBOX+, which has the CLICK cartridge and an ACP disk drive
interface giving 1770 DFS. The two disk drives are from SLOGGER, linked
together to the interface but powered separately. At the moment I have
1 & 3 power off though it makes no difference if I have power on. In
the past with Flippy problems I have had the PEGASUS 400 DFS active so
it does not seem to be an interface matter.

The new switch I have from Derek Walker is really an extension of his
original RGB switch (which I still have) but the "black box" is
somewhat bigger. It takes the four leads from the RGB sockets of my two
Electron's and two BBC's as input and has one output lead only to my
Cub Microvitec monitor. A knob on the front of the box can be turned to
any one of four positions to display on the screen whatever the current
output is from each computer. So I can have four computers live at the
same time if I wish but currently I usually have only two - my main
Electron and a BBC - because if I am useing the BBC I like to have the
Electron live to give me a warning beep for any programmed messages
from CLICK. I now have three spare Electron's!

Like John Crane I have received a few job lots with my recent purchases
and I have a tremendous amount of sorting to do, both tape and disk,
Electron and BBC. If I ever get on top of this I will advertise the
duplicated items and those I do not require! I will not be lost for
wordprocessing for I now have *WORD, VIEW, INTERWORD, WORDWISE+ and the
one which goes with DOSPLUS2. Also I now have a 386 Laptop with
CEOWRITE and WORD PERFECT! Why have I no time, I wonder, as I type
this well into the small hours - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The next day and later- just tried EUG21 on the Integra-B BBC and get
the "not found/bad name at line 140" as above, so it does not seem to
be a drive problem either. This BBC also has 1770 DFS and is coupled
to a Cumana twin drive 40/80 unit set to 80 track as per my usual
default.

By now, you and other members, will have gathered that I incline to be
a manipulator of programs and other software rather than a programmer.
My own financial programs are very basic BASIC and I adapt software
for say, pillar diagrams, without necessarily understanding the BASIC
involved in the software itself. Again, for example, I do not
understand line 140 referred to above - though I probably could with
study (and TIME). Another difficulty I find is that the program error
is not always at the line thrown up by the computer.
