!Manuals/filetypes

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

#indent 5
#sprite 0,0 application
This is an application directory. It's like any normal directory, but is treated differently by the Filer. The Filer sees that this is an application directory rather than a normal one, by the preceding "!" in the name.
#indent 0

Let's call the directory !X...

 * When first seen by the Filer:
If !X.!Boot exitst, this will be run, otherwise
     !X.!Sprites will be loaded.
 * When run :
     The file !X.!Run is executed.

The date shown when you select "full info" in the filer
menu, is the date belonging to !X.!RunImageDATAObey (&FEB)
#indent 5

This is a Module. When loaded, it is added to the chain of modules already present, possibly replacing an old one with the same name. A module can provide os commands, SWIs, new screen modes and much more..DATABASIC (&FFB)
#indent 5
#sprite 0,0 file_ffb
This is a tokenised BASIC file. When loaded into any decent text-editor, the data will be presented as normal text, but on file it is stored in a format easier to read by the BASIC intepreter.DATArText (&FFF)
#indent 5
#sprite 0,0 file_fff
There really isn't much to say about this filetype, is there..?DATAnTemplate (&FEC)
#indent 5
#sprite 0,0 file_fec
