CREATING RESTS
Do one of the following:
� Select a note and press F12.
� Select an existing rest or multirest, press
a note-value function key to create a note
of the duration you want, then press F12 to
turn the note into a rest.
� Select an existing rest and copy it by
clicking Adjust (or Alt-Adjust to copy into
the second voice).
You won't often need to create rests as
Sibelius creates most of them itself when you
modify a note-value, in order to keep the bar
duration correct.
DRAGGING RESTS
You can drag rests up and down and left and
right, just like notes. Apart from in excep-
tional circumstances, the rest position when
in one voice is absolutely standard. So for
music in one voice you shouldn't adjust the
vertical position of rests without a very good
reason.
However, in two voices you should adjust the
vertical position as necessary to allow room
for the other voice.
FUNCTION KEYS
Many of the function keys operate on rests as
well as on notes - the beams keys (F1 plus
Shift and Ctrl), the note-value keys, dot
(F11), pause (Ctrl-F9) and bar rest
(Shift-F12). When you apply a note-value key
to a rest it will create a note of the speci-
fied duration.
