This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

The Info item leads to a standard RISC OS info box about AppsClock.DATA BST
Clicking on BST will toggle the time between GMT and BST. A tick to the left of the menu entry indicates whether BST is currently active.
If your computer is configured to a territory other than the UK, then the �BST� item {/}should{/} changed to the name of the daylight saving time in your territory. If your territory does not have daylight saving, then this option will be greyed out. Living in the UK, I have been unable to test this properly, and I would appreciate any feedback on whether or not this actually works. DATA� Show Date
This will change the time displayed underneath the Apps icon to the current date, in the format {F20}date/month{F0}. The date will be displayed for approximately two seconds, and then the display will revert back to the time. DATAO Open '$'
This entry, by default, opens the directory {/}Resources:${/}. DATA0 Advanced Features
There are really only two of these, and they aren't particularly �advanced�:

DATA� Opening different directories
With AppsClock, it is possible to open different directories to the standard Apps and root directories.
The most useful reason that I can think of for doing this is to have easy access to your most used applications e.g. Zap, Impression, ArtWorks, StrongHelp, Printers etc. instead of the standard RISC OS applications, while still being able to access the files in ResourceFS through normal access to the root directory.
This feature is controlled by two system variables, {/}AppsClock$AppsDir{/}, which holds the directory name to be opened for Apps; and {/}AppsClock$RootDir{/}, which holds the directory name to opened as the root directory. By default, these variables hold {/}Resources:$.Apps{/} and {/}Resources:${/} respectively.
Therefore, if you wanted your main applications directory to be opened instead of the one in Resources every time you clicked on the Apps icon, you would need to include a line similar to:

This can look a little messy in the title bar of the directory display, particularly if the directory has a long pathname. A suggested solution to this is to set up a path variable to the application directory:

� If you have an organised hard disc(!), with your main applications in different directories: for instance DTP, Graphics and Printing; or you are still using only floppies, you can make use of an application called <!PseudoApp=>PseudoApps> to make it appear as if your applications are in the same directory.
� The system variables mentioned above can be set by passing parameters to AppsClock if it is run from the command line (or a boot sequence). See <Setting parameters when loading=>Loading>.DATA� !PseudoApp
If you want to make it appear that all your applications are in one directory (probably a directory inside your boot sequence), without copying them all to that directory, and using up little disc space, then you can make use of !PseudoApp.
To load !PseudoApp, shift double click on the !AppsClock icon in the directory display. A new directory will open, and inside this you should find !PseudoApp. Double click this to load it. A window will now have appeared in the desktop.
To create a �pseudo application�, drag the original application to the window, and then drag the icon in the bottom half of the window to the destination directory of the pseudo application (take care not to overwrite the original application - I'm not responsible if you do).
You can now make a dummy apps directory, possibly with subdirectories if you wish, which is full of pseudo applications that represent real applications eleswhere on your hard disc.
These pseudo applications behave in the same way as the original application i.e. double click to run and get help from the filer menu in the normal way. However, shift double clicking will not open the real application's directory. To do this, shift double click on the pseudo application, and then run the file {/}!!OpenApp{/}.
Pseudo applications can be moved to any directory and still work, but if you move the original application you will have to remake the pseudo application. DATA� Technical details
When you run AppsClock, the ResourceFiler task will disappear from the Task Manager's task display. This is perfectly normal.
If you decide you don't like AppsClock and you want the original Apps icon back, then it easiest simply to reset your machine. However, if you know what you are doing, you need to:

Quit the 'Filer' task from the Tasks display menu

It's probably easier (and less risky) to reset your machine!
The module supports MessageTrans and territories. To add messages for your country, simply add a new directory inside !AppsClock.Resources with the name of your territory. Then copy the UK messages file into your new directory, and make the changes using Edit (or Zap/similar).
Please note the messages all have maximum lengths - if you exceed these lengths then the module is likely to crash.
Also, I would be grateful if you sent <me=>YesItsMe> any non-UK messages file you have written so that other users can benefit. You must not distribute AppsClock with extra Messages files present.
The module should also change the BST (BSE?) menu item to the daylight saving time of your configured territory. If it doesn't, please let me know and I'll try and fix it.
Also note that the single messages and template files contain all the resources needed for both !AppsClock and !PseudoApp.
DATA� Licence/Disclaimer
AppsClock is freeware. This means that you may distribute copies as you please provided that all the files within the !AppsClock application are copied intact and in their original states, and that no profit is made from the copy.
The contents of the !AppsClock directory is � Andrew Booker, and files must not be distributed individually, with the exception of the files in the {/}Help{/} directory:
{/}!StrongHlp{/} is � Guttorm Vik. See the StrongHelp manual for licence details.
{/}AppsClock{/}, the StrongHelp manual, remains � Andrew Booker and is subject to the above licence, but it may also be copied without the rest of !AppsClock, provided that it is copied with a copy of !StrongHlp (but there isn't much point in copying the help manual without the program, is there???)

DATAs Show free memory
This will change the time displayed underneath the Apps icon to the amount of free memory. This will be displayed for approximately two seconds, and then the display will revert back to the time.
The memory will normally be displayed in kilobytes (e.g. 816K). However, if there is 8192K or more free, then this will change to megabytes (e.g. 8M). DATA9 Adjust clicking on the Apps icon
By default, this has the same effect as clicking with select i.e. opening the Apps directory. However, this effect is actually controlled by the system variable {/}AppsClock$Options{/}. Changing the contents of this variable causes adjust clicking to behave differently:

If you add 16 to this value (i.e. use 16 to 19 instead of 0 to 3), then clicking adjust on the iconbar icon while the date or free memory is being displayed will cause the other piece of information to be displayed. This effectively gives an extra feature adjust double clicking on the icon.
As an example, I personally use a value of 18: this allows me to see the date by clicking with adjust, and amount of free memory by double clicking with adjust.

� Other values of AppsClock$Options are reserved, and should not be used to ensure future compatability.
� The variable AppsClock$Options is a number, and not a string. It should therefore be set by using the command {F20}*SetEval ...{F0} and {/}not{/} {F20}*Set{F0}.
� The directories mentioned above are the default options, and may be changed to other directories if you wish. See <Opening different directories=>DiffDir>.

It can be inconvenient to have to set the system variables AppsClock$AppsDir, AppsClock$RootDir and AppsClock$Options in separate commands before loading AppsClock in your boot sequence, so therefore it is possible to set all of these variables when you run AppsClock from the command line or in your boot sequence. The syntax of this command is:

\<opts\> is the value to be put into AppsClock$Options
\<apps dir\> is the directory name to be put into AppsClock$AppsDir

As an example, I have AppsClock set up to display the date when I click the icon bar with adjust, to show free memory if I click adjust again, and to open the directory {/}Apps:Main{/} instead of the default Apps directory. The command I use to run AppsClock in my boot sequence is:

AppsClock is a program, which at its simplest level, replaces the word 'Apps' underneath the Apps icon on the icon bar with the current time, using only just under 4K of the module area.
The usual features of the Apps icon remain: clicking select or <adjust> will, by default, open the Apps directory, and <menu> brings up a slightly extended menu
AppsClock can also be used to change your computer between GMT/BST, temporarily display the date or amount of free memory instead of the time on the icon bar, and made to open different directories than the default {/}Resources:$.Apps{/} and {/}Resources:${/}.
To load AppsClock, simply double click the icon in a directory display. Alternatively, to load AppsClock in your boot sequence, add the following line {/}after{/} the desktop has been entered:

If you load AppsClock with a different command, or before the desktop is entered, then the original Apps icon may not be removed from the icon bar. DATA� version 0.10 (03 Mar 1996)
