This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

CURSOR BLINK-OFF About one in ten people suffer from Migraines which can be potentiated by a flashing light. This might explain why VDU operators complain of headaches, since a flashing cursor is used in many word processors like Wordwise-Plus and View. The cursor used in the BBC machine can be modified by use of a VDU23 command, but unfortunately it is restored as soon as a WWP or VIEW command is entered. This problem is overcome in the BASIC Program CUR/B which, when run, produces some machine code residing at &C00. This code programs both the Timer in the 6522 VIA and Register 10 in the 6845 CRT Controller chip. The Timer is set to produce an 'Event' every 2 Seconds so that the CRTC is re-programmed via the 'Event Vector' regularly. This means that the code in Register 10 is reset to produce a non-flashing tall cursor within 2 seconds of any Word-processor command that recalled the flashing cursor. This 2 Seconds of flashing is not objectionable, and is helpful in quickly locating the position of the cursor amongst the text. The program CUR/B should be CHAINED from BASIC before entering the word processor, or the M/C Code version CUR/M can be entered from disc by typing *CUR/M in WWP or VIEW command mode, or in a !BOOT file.
