This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

MavicaFS v1.20 ============== �Copyright 1998 David Glover Purpose ======= This program allows you to read JPEG files created by the Sony Mavica digital camera. They are otherwise unreadable by most RiscOS applications, because they have a non-standard header. If you don't own a Mavica, then this program isn't much use to you! How to use ========== This program fully supports !Help, for those who don't like reading help files. Before you rush off, though, please read the shareware note at the bottom of this file. When run, the program will plant itself firmly on your icon bar. If you are using an unregistered version, a window will appear with a progress bar. This window does nothing except act as an incentive to register the software, as it is removed if you register. Once the program has loaded, and the progress window has disappeared, (Click "OK" once the progress bar has reached 100%.) you can click on it's icon bar icon to show the program window. It contains lots of icons that are, for now, greyed out and unusable. (And a cute picture of my cat.) To do anything interesting, you'll need to insert a Mavica disk and click "Scan". After much whirring and clunking, one of three things will happen. Either you'll get the error "Drive empty", which means you forgot to insert a disk, or you'll get the error "No Mavica image files found", which means you havn't taken any photos on this disk, or all the buttons will un-grey and the first image on the disk will appear in the "preview" box. (Hooray!) You can now do many things. You can browse through the images on the disk by using the left and right arrows, or by clicking on the box in-between and choosing an image directly. You can click "View full size" to view the image at it's full size in a window, or click "View full screen" to see it screen-sized. You can also save the image to use elsewhere. Click "Save as sprite" to save the image as a standard RiscOS sprite. You'll find the save box contains the following options: Colours - the number of colours in the resulting image. People with an A5000 or earlier machine should be warned that !Paint cannot display 32k or 16M images. Size - give you two choices. Normal (640 x 480), or half size (32 x 240). Low-res - this will create a rectangular-pixel mode image, for people with older monitors. Rotate 90� - if you've taken any photos with the camera on it's side, this will turn the resulting image round. Invert - ever taken a photo using the rather pointless "negative" mode and wished you hadn't? This will un-do it. (It will also invert normal photos - should you ever want to.) Ticking "Whole floppy" before saving will allow you to save the entire contents of a disk to a directory. IMPORTANT ========= Before removing the disk you *must* click the "dismount" button. Faliure to do this will confuse the stuffing out of RiscOS and many nasty things will happen. Options ======= Selecting "Setup..." from the icon bar menu will allow you to specify the image quality used in full screen mode. Note the requirements in brackets after each option. Registered users note ===================== Your codes from previous versions will also work in this version. For ease of re-registration you can simply copy the "Register" file from inside MavicaFS into the new version. Changes ======= From v1.10 to v1.20 ------------------- * "View full screen" now uses an 800x600 mode if you're using a RiscPC - improved image quality slightly. * Reduced the amount of times the disc needs to be accessed. Much much nicer. * Size options in "Save as sprite". * Now supports !Help. From v1.00 to v1.10 ------------------- * Reorganised the main window. * Added a "view full size" button. * Small registration bug fixes. Shareware ========= This software is Shareware: Software that has been released as "Shareware" means that you can download it and try it out for free. You can also give copies to your friends to try.
