ImpJunior/Examples/!Impdemo/Chapter1/Text
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

 l P ! 0 his is a frame based word processor. All P MP D|! 0 text and graphics occur within rectangu- P H 0Hs! 9 lar frames, which may be positioned H P kPh`@! 9 anywhere on the page and be any size up to P P 3! 9 the full page. Frames may be re-sized and P T ?H@! 9 re-positioned at any time just by moving the T P z! 9 mouse pointer to the frame and dragging. P P e(G r! 9 Frames can be thought of as two dimensional P X .h>! 9 rulers controlling not only the left and right but X -T R3I ! 9 also the top and bottom margins of the text. T -( R xp! 5 ( P Ax! 5 Text can be made to flow from one frame to P P 'XEPp! 9 any other on the page, or on other pages - P P 4P<! 9 this happens automatically as frames are re- P X 680 ! 9 sized or the text is edited or altered. In this X L |! 9 way text may be formatted to multiple L P i,w! 9 columns or indeed into multiple sections at P -@ RCn! 9 any position on the page. @ -( R :! 5 ( P 3h`! 5 Impression provides total support for frame P P ب! 9 manipulation. Options include a variety of P X DhHu@! 9 border types - to liven up the page, or to put a X P 3Al! 9 box around some text etc. Frames may be P P 6( 9! 9 displayed transparent (objects can be seen P MP ! 9 under the frame) or with any colour back- P T M ! 9 ground. One other special feature of frames T T %xsp! 9 is the text repel option. This forces text to T L 3?j! 9 flow around certain frames (containing L P RXP7! 9 graphics for example). Unusually Impression P T )P! 9 allows (if required) text to flow around BOTH T T j80! 9 sides of a graphic frame, rather than the more T T aWq! 9 conventional approach that normally restricts T ` RR%>i! 9 text to flowing to ONE side of the graphic. v v ` 8 R 5 5 { v { 8 P j 5 Automatic re-formatting, re-pagination and P H R: h` 9 text flow v { { H -( R oК! 5 ( L H<@g! 5 Impression keeps the current document L T n 3! 9 totally up to date so that it always exactly T MT }?( ! 9 mirrors the final printed output. Text is con- T T ! 9 tinually, automatically re-formatted as it is T T .! 9 edited or altered. There is never a need to T MP M|! 9 issue re-format commands or select re-pagi- P T eHs! 9 nation menu options as is the case with many T P h`@! 9 other word processors. Unlike other DTP P P I! 9 systems Impression also allows the text and P P "H@! 9 the cursor to flow from frame to frame and P P 3z! 9 from one page to the next unhindered. For P P i,(G r! 9 users this means that they can simply type P T 3I>! 9 and continue to do so without any regard for T MP P8 ! 9 frame order or for page breaks etc. Impres- P ` RΘxp! 9 sion copes with it all. x x w w x ` -( R x 5 ( H R7 XEPp 5 Graphics w x ( x H -( R <! 5 ( T j80 ! 5 Word processors that cannot include graphics T T U! 9 on the page are severely restricted and word T L w! 9 processors that do support graphics are L P Cn! 9 usually limited to the placing of a simple P ` R|8:! 9 sprite on the page which cannot be altered. ` yV4 $ , $ B(7@| & & & & & & The Word Wise & & & & & & yV4 t B Q! 8 hPage 1 t yV4l %, BZ;f!
