This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

!Help file for ZapScrap ======================= ZapScrap is a network utility which is part of the Admin network manager software, which is available from Room J Software. What does it do? ---------------- As the name may suggest, ZapScrap will clear Scrap directories. You may well ask why you would want to do this, the answer is to save hard disc space. Over a period of time, files can build up inside the Scrap directory, wasting space on the disc. While this is not a major problem for a stand- alone computer, on a network with several hundred users, these files can add up to over 100 megabytes. In addition, some users "hide" illegal software by putting it inside the Scrap directory. ZapScrap will remove all the files from the Scrap directories on the network. It will then put a "default scrap" back into the user, so that the system will continue to function. Setting it up ------------- ZapScrap required very little setting up. You can install it to the network by dragging it across in the normal manner. Once on the network, you MUST now set the default scrap directory up. To do this, hold down Shift and double-click on the !ZapScrap icon. Inside the application is a directory called "URD". Open this by double-clicking on it and copy a !Scrap directory into it. A good idea is to use one from the applications disc as it will not have any old files in it. Using it -------- To use ZapScrap you MUST be logged on to a system user on the server you wish to use. You can then double-click the !ZapScrap icon to run ZapScrap. If you have more than one server, or more that one exported disc, then a window will appear informing you of all the servers you can use. Click on the server you wish to use and the program will run. If you only have one server, then the window will not appear, and the program will automatically use the (only) server. NOTE : If you are exporting more than one disc on a server, ZapScrap will only clear scraps on the disc you select. HINT : Clearing scraps can take a long time, expecially on large systems. It is task that is best run overnight.
