StarInfo/Mellor/!Cupid/!Help
This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

One of the passing fads at school is to see who
loves who, using a daft method. It works like this:
Say Joe Bloggs wants to see how much Jemima Bloggs
loves him. You go through each letter of the word
'Loves' and count the number of times it occurs in
both of the names. In this case, there are 2 'L's, 3
'O's, 0 'V's, 2 'E's and 2 'S's.
You line all these numbers up together - 23022.
Then you go through this line adding up the pairs
of numbers, then use these results to form a new
line:
23022
2+3=5, 3+0=3, 0+2=2, 2+2=4
5324
If the new number is 100 or less then that is the
percentage of how much the people love each other.
If it's greater than 100 you continue to add up the
pairs of numbers again until you have your
percentage:
5324
5+3=8, 3+2=5, 2+4=6
856
8+5=13, 5+6=11
1311
1+3=4, 3+1=4, 1+1=2
442
4+4=8, 4+2=6
86
So Joe Bloggs loves Jemima Bloggs 86%.
On to the program. Working out all these percentages
can take an extremely long time, so why not let a
computer do all the hard work for you? Enter !Cupid.
Simply type in a couple of names and click on
process. The computer will work out the percentages
in a fraction of a second. If it's taking too long
for you, or that particular combination of names
cannot be worked out simply click on Abort.
Okay, so this is probably not the most useful
program ever, but it does have a very nicely
animated icon bar icon.

If this program gets published and I haven't said
'Hello' to a few people I know then my life won't be
worth living, so here goes:
Hi there! to James, Jake, Paul (Mr 'X'), Mathieu,
Mark, Kev, Rob the Mule, Joe, everyone in my
Information Systems class, Gareth, Andi Parki (one
of only TWO people I know who owns an Arc! And I
know a lot of people), Lesley (she's the other one),
everyone who spends their time in the Careers room,
Angela, Cathy, Karen, Ma, Pa, my sister Lynne and
Soo our cat. That should do for the moment I think.
