StarInfo/Somerville/!Reaction/!Help

This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.

Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

Reaction by Phil Norman

Converted to work on pre-RISC PC machines by Matthew Somerville (age 15)
                                                                    (25/1/96)
Computer mode added by Matthew Somerville (28/1/96)

When you quit the game, it says read the !Help le, but there wasnt
one when I got it, so I have written this one!

Just run the program, move the mouse around, and the help text will tell you
what each button does.

All I had to do to get it to work on my A5000, was change the mode from 32
to 28, shrink all the graphics to two-thirds of their original size (using
!ChangeFSI) and rearrange all the icons on the screen so that I could see
them all. It took me just a couple of hours, but you do need a multi-sync
monitor.

I also added my name to the title page (with an extra help message
attached),and tidied up the way the program quit (It had the END in a
procedure!)

The next day, I read in the magazine that you wanted a computer mode as well.So I set to work, added more options to the title page, and at 9:55pm I got the computer version running, playing a four-player game against itself! (Admittedly, the procedure to pick where the computer placed its counters was to just pick a square that it could place a counter on)

By 17:00 on the Sunday 28th January 96 I had written a proper computer
version, which planned its move, and played a very good game!

I hope this improves on an already very good game!
