Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

!Killer is a sophisticated program providing many different configurable features, which allow practically any combination of its features to be achieved. Unfortunately this can make !Killer seem a little daunting when first encountered. This file explains the best ways to install !Killer and VProtect and explains how to scan a disc or other media. 1) Installation i) VProtect Ensure that your main copy of !System is visible in a directory viewer. Double click the SELECT mouse button on !installVP and wait. After a few moments a message saying "VProtect successfully installed" will be displayed. If you have a floppy only system the disc with !System on it should be in the computer when it is switched on. ii) !Killer Make a working copy of !Killer (and for that matter, the entire disc). If you have a floppy only system, use the working copy and keep the disc write protected. If you have a hard disc copy !Killer onto it, and still make a copy of the original disc for safety. !Killer is designed to be perfectly happy running from read-only environments. iii) !KillerLog This provides a location for all the files which !Killer uses for preference settings (options etc). This must therefore be somewhere which is not read-only. If you have a single floppy system create a RAM disc, copy !KillerLog onto the RAM disc, and double click on it there. If you have a hard disc !KillerLog should be copied on to the hard disc. Always make sure that a copy of !KillerLog has been seen before using !Killer. *** IMPORTANT *** !KillerLog with version 1.390 of !Killer has additional files inside it - we recommend deleting your original copy of !KillerLog and replacing it with the new version. 2) Using !Killer Load !Killer by double clicking SELECT on its icon in a directory viewer. After a few moments a window will appear showing the version of !Killer and the number of viruses which it can handle. This window will disappear when a mouse button is clicked. There are many different ways provided for scanning a disc, but the three most likely to be useful are: a) By setting up the FS and Device settings in !Killer's menu (click MENU on the icon bar to bring it up). Once they have been set the Scan menu entry can be clicked upon to start a scan. b) By dragging an archive or directory onto !Killer's icon. c) By moving the pointer into a directory viewer for the directory you wish to scan, and then using either of the two hotkey sequences which can start a scan. The first is ALT, ALT and Action (the right hand control key), and the other is SHIFT, CTRL and TAB on the left side of the keyboard. Hold down the three keys simultaneously to start a scan. In some circumstances applcations may not pass on these keystrokes, however at least one permutation should always work. If a virus infection is found you will be offered the choices 'Abort', 'Remove' and 'Skip'. Abort stops the scan, and does nothing about the infection. Skip ignores the infection and continues scanning. Remove will reverse the effect of virus infection - restoring original files where applicable.
