This website contains an archive of files for the Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Acorn Archimedes, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 computers, which Dominic Ford has rescued from his private collection of floppy disks and cassettes.
Some of these files were originally commercial releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but they are now widely available online. I assume that copyright over them is no longer being asserted. If you own the copyright and would like files to be removed, please contact me.

About this Utility
������������������
This utility produces lists or catalogues of your outline fonts,
enabling you to quickly see what a particular font looks like without having
to call it up on screen, invaluable when deciding what font to use for you
latest Desk top publishing master piece!
How to use Font List
��������������������
The program can be installed on the icon bar in the usual way, after a
short pause the application will call a program contained in the !FontList
directory to complied a list of the fonts currently available and save the
data inside the !FontList directory. Control will be returned to desktop.
The menu available from the Fontlister icon has the following options
�Info
This gives the standard information about the program
�Update list
This will recall the font list compiling program causing the
fonts recognised by the application to be updated. Select this option if you
have just installed some new fonts ie. double clicked on a font directory.
�Options
This opens the options window which displays the number of outline
fonts counted as well as allowing you to change the characteristics of the
font list. Title font is the outline font name of the font to be used for
the title/description of each font. eg. Trinity.Medium ,
Homerton.Medium.Oblique etc, Demonstration Text allows you to change what is
printed to demonstrate each font. Title font size is the font size in pt's
of the title/description Main Font size is the font size in pt's of the
demonstration text to be printed.
For draw files there are further details to complete, Impression catalogues
are automatically spaced but Draw files need te information of how much
space there should be allowed for the title font and the main text as well
as the size of the list on each page and the margins. The default margin and
size settings are just right for the draw file to print on an A4 page
dot-matrix type printer.
�Save
This menu leads to a sub menu with the save boxes for the various
types of catalogue.
Impression
Will save the font list as a text file that can be dropped into an
impression frame. The list should flow from page to page until it fits. The
resulting document can then be printed from Impression.
Draw
Will first create a directory of the supplied file name then create
the draw files for each page and save them in numbered order inside. The
pointer will change to an hourglass during this process and the percentage
value beneath will give details of how much has been done.
The user will have to load each page into draw and print them one at
a time to produce the finished catalogue.
List
This will just save a text file containing the name of each outline
font.
Important details
�����������������
This application needs to save data inside its own directory when
run so it will not load from a read only filling system eg. from an archive
with a decompact only reader. If this is the case the application will have
to be transferred to a read/write -able filing system medium eg. a blank
ADFS floppy disc!
Best results are achieved with impression font lists if a two column
page layout is used to maximise space.
Unfortunately at the moment when creating Draw font lists the
program will "Crash" when reaching 128 fonts, the desktop is left intact as
far as I know but the program exits. The program will warn the user when
attempting to save the draw files that it may exit when the 128th font is
reached. All the draw files up to the one contains the 128th font will be
created and saved, and may be used in the normal way.
N.B. If your are loading these catalogues into Draw/Impression it is
very wise to reduce the outline font anti-aliasing values to below the size
of the main font unless you want unbearable slow screen redraws and a lot of
hourglass activity. Also increase your font cache to as high as it will go
to reduce excess disc activity
On the other hand these details may be ignored if you have a 500Mhz
ARM 8 chip with the entire font directory stored on a hard disc with a
4nano-second access time and enough font cache memory to hold 3 copies of
the Yellow pages!!!.....
